Best wishes!

Yours,

Dear Helen, Thank you for your email. Now I would like to tell you something about the extracurricular reading in our school. I’m sorry to say that most of the students in our school haven’t realized the importance of reading, especially extracurricular reading, as a result, the time and energy students devoted to reading are very limited. Besides, some students prefer to read cartoons, magazines and newspapers rather than classic reading materials. I think the reasons behind that are various. First of all, quite a lot of students are burdened with too much homework. Still others haven’t formed a habit of reading. They would rather spend their spare time on TV or on the Internet. However, reading has many benefits. Through reading we can learn more about the world. Reading can help us think better and make our life more colorful. So it is quite necessary for the students to take up reading and for the teachers to limit the amount of our homework so that we can have more time to read. Best wishes! 写作亮点:所给范文语言简洁,应用了一些较好的词组和句子:as a result因此, prefer to do… rather than do…宁愿做……而不愿……,be burdened with负担,form a habit of形成……,the time and energy students devoted to reading are very limited.这句话用了定语从句,So it is quite necessary for the students to take up reading and for the teachers to limit the amount of our homework so that we can have more time to read.这句话用了it做形式主语和so that句型还有范文使用了Besides, First of all, However,这样的关联词使文章更加连贯。 考点:提纲作文。

Childhood is a time of fun and games. Many people still remember when they were young, they often played games like hide-and-seek and chess. Playing teaches children how to get with others, and it also helps to exercise the mind and body. However, children today spend most of their time in front of the computer, playing video games.

A recent survey found that in the US. Children between 8 and 12 spend at least 13 hours a week playing video games or "gaming". Boys of this age spend even more time, almost 16 hours a week. Although some people will say that gaming is helpful, it brings many problems as well.

One big problem is that kids who spend most of their time on games might have difficulty communicating with real people. They might have trouble sharing and resolving (解决) problems because they do not practice these skills when sitting alone at a computer.

Another problem is about health. Game players usually sit for hours without doing any exercise. And they might not eat healthily. As a result, they might be out of shape.

Next, game players might have trouble with their lessons. Many of them spend more time playing games than working on their homework. In the end, they fail in the exams.

Finally, it is always possible that the gamers become addicted. Some people play four or five hours a day or even all day. This happened to a 28 - year - old Korean man. He spent about 50 hours playing an online game without sleeping or eating well. He died while gaming!

This is one example of the dangers of video gaming. It tells us that video gaming, like everything else, should not be done too much. A few hours a week should not hurt, but several hours a day just might be dangerous to your health.

My interest in Chinese food started many years ago, when I had my first job. I was a young reporter for the Daily Journal in San Francisco. Our office wasn’t far from Chinatown. I usually managed to arrange my time so that I could go there at least two or three times a week for a good meal.

When I ever ate Chinese food the first time, I loved it. And since then, it just tastes better and better to me. The first thing I noticed was the fresh tastes of the meat and vegetables. When I learned more about the food, I began to understand why it has this special feature.

About 5000 years ago, China lost much of its wood because of over population and poor management of its forest. This loss was very bad for the country, of course, but it turned out to be very good for the food. Wood became very expensive and hard to get, so the Chinese had to learn how to use it better.

In order to use less wood in cooking, they started to cut their meat and vegetables into small pieces before they put them in the hot oil. That way, the food cooked faster and they saved their fuel. The food prepared in this manner kept its fresh flavor(风味)—and it’s this flavor that attracts people to the art of Chinese cooking.

I often wonder if the Chinese appreciated their solution to that ancient energy problem as much as I do now –whenever I eat Chinese food.

A. fresh flavor       B. meat and vegetable

5.According to the passage, the special freshness of Chinese food is the result of _______.

B. the fast speed at which it is cooked
