Three years ago, I went to a boarding school. The reason for my attended such a school was that my parents was very busy. They often went abroad on business but had no time to take care of myself. Besides, they thought I ought to learn to independent. Honest speaking, the school life does benefit me a lot. I not only learned some ways to solve problem in my own but also learned how to get along with others. But that I treasure most now is the friendship that I developed into at that time. How I miss that wonderful time!

1. attended →attending 2. parents后的was →were 3. business后的but →and 4. myself →me 5. independent前加be 6. Honest →Honestly 7. does →did 8. in my own的in →on 9. I treasure 前的that →what 10. that从句中主语是my parents是复数,与之一致谓语也用复数形式,故parents后的was →were. 3. 故business后的but →and. 4. 故myself →me. 5. 故independent前加be. 6. 故does →did. 8. 表示“靠自己,一己之力”是on my own,介词用on.故in my own的in →on. 9. 的东西”用what引导主语从句,故I treasure 前的that →what. 10.

Reading can be a social activity. Think of the people who belong to book groups. They choose books to read and then meet to discuss them. Now, the website BookCrossing.com turns the page on the traditional idea of a book group.

Members go on the site and register the books they own and would like to share. BookCrossing provides an identification number to stick inside the book. Then the person leaves it in a public place, hoping that the book will have an adventure, traveling far and wide with each new reader who finds it.

Bruce Pederson, the managing director of BookCrossing, says, The two things that change your life are the people you meet and books you read. BookCrossing combines both.

Members leave books on park benches and buses, in train stations and coffee shops. Whoever finds their book will go to the site and record where they found it.

People who find a book can also leave a journal entry describing what they thought of it. E-mails are then sent to the BookCrossing to keep them updated about where their books have been found. Bruce peterson says the idea is for people not to be selfish by keeping a book to gather dust on a shelf at home.

About ten men in every hundred suffer from color blindness in some way. Women are luckier; only about one in two hundred is affected in this matter. Perhaps, after all, it is safer to be driven by a woman!

There are different forms of color blindness. In some cases a man may not be able to see deep red. He may think that red, orange and yellow are all shadows of green. Sometimes a person cannot tell the difference between blue and green. In rare cases an unlucky man may see everything in shades of green -- a strange world indeed.

Color blindness in human beings is a strange thing to explain. In a single eye there are millions of very small things called "cones". These help us to see in a bright light and to tell the difference between colors. There are also millions of "rods", but these are used for seeing when it is near dark. They show us shape but no color.

Some insects have favorite colors. Mosquitoes (蚊子) prefer blue to yellow. A red light will not attract insects, but a blue lamp will. In a similar way human beings also have favorite colors. Yet we are lucky. With the aid of the cones in our eyes we can see many beautiful colors by day, and with the aid of the rods we can see shapes at night. One day we may even learn more about the invisible (看不见的) colors around us.

1.The passage is mainly about______ .

A. color and its surprising effects.

B. women being luckier than men.

C. danger caused by color blindness.

D. color blindness.

2.According to the passage, with the help of the "cones", we can ________.

A. tell different shapes.

B. see in a weak light.

C. kill mosquitoes.

D. tell orange from yellow.

3.Why do some people say it is safer to be driven by women?

A. Women are more careful.

B. There are fewer color-blind women.

C. Women are fonder of driving than men.

D. Women are weaker but quicker in thinking.

4.We can attract and kill mosquitoes by using a________ .

A. red light.    B. yellow light .    C. blue light.    D. green light.
