The key to dealing with test-day jitters(焦躁)is through preparation! 1. It is important to prepare your mind and body before the test for the experience of working under pressure.

Get some sleep.

I know you’ve heard this before, but it’s often repeated because it’s so important. Get plenty of sleep the night before the test! If you don’t have enough rest, you’ll end up with less concentration. 2.

Leave early.

Be sure to leave earlier than normal on the day of a test to avoid the added fear of arriving late. 3. The embarrassment will cause you to be distracted and lose valuable time.

4.

Once you arrive at school or at the testing center, find a quiet space where you can be all alone. You can use your car if you drive, or you can find an empty locker room or office (ask a teacher). Once you locate a cozy nest in a quiet place, do a relaxation session (=period). Close your eyes and try to relax completely. Take deep breaths and remain calm.

5.

It’s possible that some students start to stress out as other students discuss the material. When you hear others chatting, it might sound like you ignored something important or you misunderstood a concept (概念). It’s probably not even true—but it can seem like it!

B. A sleepy brain is a foggy brain.

C. Watch out for chatting with others after a test.

D. Attending an exam late is the last thing you need.

About ten men in every hundred suffer from color blindness in some way. Women are luckier; only about one in two hundred is affected in this matter. Perhaps, after all, it is safer to be driven by a woman!

There are different forms of color blindness. In some cases a man may not be able to see deep red. He may think that red, orange and yellow are all shadows of green. Sometimes a person cannot tell the difference between blue and green. In rare cases an unlucky man may see everything in shades of green — a strange world indeed.

Color blindness in human beings is a strange thing to explain. In a single eye there are millions of very small things called “cones”. These help us to see in a bright light and to tell difference between colors. There are also millions of “rods”, but these are used for seeing when it is near dark. They show us shape but no color.

Some insects have favorite colors. Mosquitoes prefer blue to yellow. A red light will not attract insects, but a blue lamp will. In a similar way human beings also have favorite colors. Yet we are lucky. With the aid of the cones in our eyes we can see many beautiful colors by day, and with the aid of the rods we can see shapes at night. One day we may even learn more about the invisible colors around us.

1.The passage is mainly about _______.

A. color and its surprising effects    B. women being luckier than men

C. danger caused by color blindness    D. color blindness

2.According to the passage, with the help of the “cones”, we can _______.

A. tell different shapes    B. see in a weak light

C. kill mosquitoes    D. tell orange from yellow

3.Why do some people say it is safer to be driven by women?

A. Women are more careful.

B. There are fewer color-blind women

C. Women are fonder of driving than men.

D. Women are weaker but quicker in thinking.

4.Which of the statements about the color-blind is true?

A. All of them don’t have the same problem in recognizing color.

B. None of them can see deep red.

C. None of them can tell the difference between blue and green.

D. All of them see everything in shades of green.

The situation is that familiar --- deadlines are approaching, time runs out, disorder and confusion fills the day. The feeling is just as familiar --- a slightly faster heart rate, and shortness of breath. Yes, it is panic time.

It’s too late to kick yourself with “I should have started on this sooner.” or “It was a mistake to accept this tight deadline.” The only thing left to deal with the situation is to panic more efficiently.

Focus.

Panic happens when you are on an overload --- too many things to do, too much pressure, too little time. But if you focus on the tasks that you need to take care of, and line them up in a logical list, you can have better control of a highly stressful and wild situation.

Get rid of distractions.

Time wasters and unnecessary activities are the last things you need during this time. Let everyone know you are on panic mode and should not be disturbed unless it is an emergency.

Watch your time.

Don’t be too engaged in one detail so that you reduce your timing for the other important details. Mind the time and deal with each task so that you can finish all of the required activities sufficiently.

Try to solve a panic situation as quickly as you can so that you can rest and get back your energy and strength for the next one.

1.What can a person in a panic mode do to watch his time?

A. He should wear a watch.    B. He should focus on one detail.

C. He should do his work quickly.    D. He should mind the time properly.

2.The author suggests those on an overload______ .

A. paying no attention to their panic mode

B. planning their work according to a timetable

C. doing their work in a careful and logical way

D. asking their friends to help do the work

3.The underlined word "distraction" probably refers to something that______.

A. draws off one’s attention    B. needs to be done at once

C. is worth doing    D. costs much money

4.Which of the following can be the title of the passage?

A. A Familiar Situation    B. Panic More Efficiently

C. Keep Your Spirit High    D. Throw Away Distractions

My teacher,Mr.August J.Bachmann, was the most influential teacher I ever had.

I had gotten into trouble in his class:Another student had pushed me for fun,and I became angry and began to hit him.Mr.Bachmann stopped the fight, but instead of sending me to the office,he sat me down and asked a simple question,“Penna, why are you wasting your life? Why aren't you going to college?”

I didn't know anything about colleges or scholarships. No one had ever considered that a fatherless boy from the poorest neighborhood had a future. That day, instead of rushing off for lunch,he stayed and explained possible education options to me.At the end of our talk,he sent me to see a secretary who had a child at a state college. This was in 1962 at Emerson High School in Union City,New Jersey.

I've sat on the board for Magnet Schools of America and represented that organization at the United Nations.I've won a number of great educational awards. But where would I be if a truly caring teacher had not taken the time out of his lunch period to speak to me?It was without question only his confidence in me that helped me forward.

I have repaid his kindness hundreds of times by encouraging misguided youngsters to aim higher. If I have saved any children,it is because of him.If I have been a successful educator,it is because I had a great role model in Mr.Bachmann.
