When trying to make a successful career, which is better: being a generalist or a specialist? Inother words, should you generalize and know a little about a lot of things?1..

Natasha Olinger, a human resource expert, talks about the benefits of both. She said Generally speaking, the common wisdom is that it's always better to specialize and then you can demand a higher salary.

To explain her idea, linger uses a fairly commons situation-choosing a restaurant 2..

If you go to a restaurant that only serves sushi, you can expect high quality products, and you also should expect to pay more. If you go to a place that serves sushi, tacos and pizza, the quality of the sushi may not be so great, but the prices will probably be lower. 3..However, she adds that all is not perfect in the world of the specialist. If there is a drop in economy, a generalist may get more job offers.

Olinger suggests thinking about the size and type of business you would like to work for.4..

Also, companies that are just getting started often need people who are able to perform many different tasks. For example, your job description may be that of a graphic designer, but you may also have to do some writing, Larger companies can be just the opposite. They often need specialists-experts in a given field But perhaps the best solution is a mix of generalization and specialization. 5. . The top of the T would be the generalized part. The upright stem of the T would be the deeper understanding of a person's general knowledge-their expertise

A. Or should we combine these two with each other?

B. Some career planners call this a "t-shaped" career

C. Say you want to eat a favorite Japanese meal: sushi.

D Olinger says the world of work is not all that different

E. Small businesses often need people who can do many things

F. Olinger also warns that the world of work is more complex than this

G Or should you specialize and have a deep understanding of only one area

There was great excitement on the planet of Venus this week. For the first time Venusian scientists managed to land a satellite on the planet Earth, and it has been sending back signals as well as photographs. The satellite was directed into an area known as Manhattan. Because of excellent weather conditions and extremely strong signals, Venusian scientists were able to get valuable information about the feasibility of a manned flying saucer landing on Earth. A press conference was held at the Venus Institute of Technology. "We have come to the conclusion, based on last weeks satellite landing, "Prof. Zog said, that there is no life on Earth.”

“How do you know this? "the science reporter of the Venus Evening News asked "For one thing, Earth s surface in the area of Manhattan is composed of solid concrete and nothing can grow there. For another, the atmosphere is filled with carbon monoxide and other deadly gases and nobody could possibly breathe this air and survive. “Are there any other sources of danger that you have discovered in your studies?

“Take a look at this photo. You see this dark black cloud staying over the surface of Earth? We don' t know what it is made of, but it could give us a lot of trouble and we shall have to make further tests before we send a Venus Being there.”

“Over here you will notice what seems to be a river, but the satellite findings indicate it is polluted and the water is unfit to drink.”

“Sir, what are all those tiny black spots on the photographs?

We’re not certain. They seem to be metal particles that move along certain paths. They give gases, make noise and keep crashing into each other.

“Prof. Zog, why are we spending billions and billions of Zilches to land a flying saucer on Earth when there is no life there ?"

“Because if we Venusians can learn to breathe in the Earth atmosphere, then we can live anywhere.”

Devon Gallagher, a college graduate from Philadelphia, wants the world to know exactly here she's been during her worldwide vacation in a special way.

The traveler, who was born with a bone disease, had her right leg amputated( k)at the age of four. Although the amputation caused setbacks for Gallagher early on, she now sees it as nothing short of inspiration for living her best life.

To spread that message, Gallagher has taken to social media, where she shares photos of her travels across the globe, but instead of simply using a geo-tag, she writes her location across her artificial leg before taking a picture.

Now she has been taking pictures across the Continent, which show her cycling over the canal in Amsterdam relaxing on a wall overlooking the city of Barcelona, posing with a waffle in Brussels, taking in the spectacular Parthenon temple in Athens and enjoying a river cruise in Budapest, all with the well-known locations written on her artificial leg “I get a new leg every two years and I can choose the design on it. One day I had a sudden thought to get a chalk-board, "Gallagher said. "My mum and grand-mother weren’t too keen on the idea, but my friends thought it was great and told me to go for it, so I did.”

Gallagher said people often stare when shes writing on her leg, but once she shares the photos she receives only positive feedback."My leg hasn,t stopped me from doing anything I've wanted to do, " she said. "I don,t know if it's my determination to prove to myself that I can do it, but regardless, I've been able to keep up with my peers and lead a pretty great life, Gallagher shows us that you should never let anything stand in the way of your dreams.     This story starts with my two kids. We were hiking in the Oakland woods when my daughter noticed some plastic litter in a creek. She looked at me and said, "Daddy? That doesn’t go there”.

When she said that, it reminded me of my summer camp. On the morning of that camping day, right before they’d let our anxious parents come through the gates, our camp director would say Quick! Everyone pick up five pieces of litter, "We got one hundred kids each picking up five pieces, and pretty soon, we got a much cleaner camp. So I thought, why not apply that crowdsourced cleanup model to the entire planet? And that was the inspiration for Literati. The goal is to create a litter-free world. Let me show you how it started. I took a picture of a cigarette using Instagram.

Then I took another photo. and another. And at the end of a few days, I had 50 photos on my hone and I had picked up each piece, and I realized that I was keeping a record of the positive impact I was having on the planet. That’s 50 fewer things you might see, or you might step on, or some bird might eat. So I started telling people what I was doing, and they started participating. I realized that Litterati was more than just pretty pictures; we were becoming a community that was collecting data. Each photo tells a story. It tells us who picked up what, a geo-tag tells us where and a time stamp tells us when. Gradually, the community grew.

Litter it's blending into the back ground of our lives. But what if we brought it to the fore front? What if we understood exactly what was on our streets, our sidewalks and our school yards?

How might we use that data to make a difference?

1.From the text we can tell Litterati is probably_______

A. a hi-tech company    B. a reading software

C. a non-profit app    D. a well-known magazine

2.What does the author suggest by mentioning the inspiration from the camping director?

A. Many hands make light work.    B. A good beginning is half done

C. Birds of a feather flock together.    D. A candle lights others and consumes itself.

3.What are the paragraphs following the text likely to deal with?

A. To present the reasons for so much litter

B. To appeal to people to use garbage classification.

C. To tell readers what measures to take to handle litter

D. To show more statistics about what they have done with litter
