Anyway, when that was time for me to go back to school, she went up to me with a box of homemade pancake in her hand. Patting me on shoulder, she said gently, “Take this on case you feel hungry on the train. Sweetheart, you’re always my good girl.” Still feeling a bit of angry, I refused her but quietly turned away. Had nothing to do on the train, I couldn’t help thinking about the scene of leaving and felt terrible sorry. What I wish I could have said sorry to her sincerely before I left!

Theatre is a great activity to be a part of. It’s an excellent way to make friends, practice the art, show your talents, and explore your creative side. Here’s how to prepare yourself so that you can be your shining best.

Practice, practice, practice!

1.To improve your practice, ask directors for pointers. While no show is perfect, with persistence (意志力), you can create a very satisfying end result.

2.

When you are in bed, picture yourself on the stage having a great time. Go through your lines, songs, and dance moves, and picture them going perfectly. The key is to stay relaxed and create a positive image of yourself on the stage.

Don’t be nervous when you are on stage!

It will be dark where the audience is seated, and you won’t be able to see their faces. When you aren’t saying lines, take deep breaths. 3.Just have fun!

Remember to show expression.

Be proud of your performance and display the emotion that your character is feeling. 4.Keep in mind that you’re not only representing who you are as a performer, but also the rest of your cast and crew members and your directors as well! Smile (if you are supposed to) and have lots of fun!

Smile during the curtain call.

The curtain call is when the audience will take pictures, so wear a smile. Depending on the type of show, you might want to stay in character for a few extra seconds before you break out into a smile. Also, if you have one last song to sing at the end, sing it loud and proud.5.

A. Just make sure the audience can’t tell.

B. This is when all of your hard work pays off.

C. Get good sleep for the last few nights before the performance.

D. Go over every aspect of the performance until you are satisfied.

E. It’s also polite to introduce your supporters to the other cast members.

F. Talk about exactly what you want to do on stage, and what you don’t want to do.

G. If you are performing an emotional scene, pull the audience into your tale so that it’s an enjoyable experience.

NOT all memories are sweet. Some people spend all their lives trying to forget bad experiences. Violence and traffic accidents can leave people with terrible physical and emotional scars. Often they relive these experiences in nightmares.

Now American researchers think they are close to developing a pill, which will help people forget bad memories. The pill is designed to be taken immediately after a frightening experience. They hope it might reduce ,or possibly erase(抹去),the effect of painful memories.

In November, experts tested a drug on people in the US and France. The drug stops the body releasing chemicals that fix memories in the brain. So far the research has suggested that only the emotional effects of memories may be reduced, not that the memories are erased.

The research has caused a great deal of argument. Some think it is a bad idea, while others support it.

Supporters say it could lead to pills that prevent or treat soldiers' troubling memories after war. They say that there are many people who suffer from terrible memories.

"Some memories can ruin people's lives. They come back to you when you don't want to have them in a daydream or nightmare. They usually come with very painful emotions," said Roger Pitman, a professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. "This could relieve a lot of that suffering."

But those who are against the research say that changing memories is very dangerous because memories give us our identity (特质). They also help us all avoid the mistakes of the past.

"All of us can think of bad events in our lives that were horrible at the time but make us who we are. I'm not sure we want to wipe those memories out, "said Rebecca Dresser, a medical ethicist.

A. cause the brain to fix memories

C. prevent body producing certain chemicals

D. Wipe out the emotional effects of memories

3.We can infer from the passage that ___________.

A. people doubt the effects of the pills

B. the pill will stop people's bad experiences

C. taking the pill will do harm to people's health

D. the pill has probably been produced in America

4.Which of the following does Rebecca Dresser agree with?

A. Some memories can ruin people's lives.

B. People want to get rid of bad memories.

C. Experiencing bad events makes us different from others.

D. The pill will reduce people's sufferings from bad memories.
