Tina, 14, is hard-working student. She studies hard, follows the rules at school, and do whatever her parents, teachers and even friend tell her to do. She seems to be used to say “yes” to everything. But Tina is not always happy about this. “Sometimes her friends invite me to do something together, but I’ve got the other plans already,” Tina said. “And sometimes people ask too much favors from me. For example, every day a student is in duty to keep the classroom clean, and there is one girl whom always wants to change shifts (轮班) with me. I don’t feel like helping her, because I just cannot say no.” “I wish I could change,” Tina thought to herself.

1. hard-working→a hard-working 2. do→does 3. friend→friends 4. say→saying 5. her→my 6. the other→other 7. much→many 8. in→on 9. whom→who 10. because→but 【解析】 本文是一篇记叙文,讲述了好女孩蒂娜的烦恼——不会拒绝别人。 be used to doing表示“习惯于做某事”,故say改为saying。 第六处:考查the other与other的区别。句意同上,the other表示“两者中的另一个”,other表示“其他的”,故去掉other前的the。 第七处:考查too much与too many的区别。 too much修饰不可数名词,too many修饰可数名词复数,修饰的是favors,故much改为many。 be on duty表示“值日”,故in改为on。

My journey home from school is nothing special. The train’s always busy but I usually find a seat and start reading or texting my friends, making sure, like everyone else, not to look at other people.

But last Tuesday was different. I was happily listening to some new music when the train suddenly stopped. This wasn’t unusual and I didn’t think anything of it. Then after about five minutes, I noticed people were starting to get a bit angry. Fifteen minutes later, people started getting angrier. The longer the train stood still, the angrier people became until finally the announcement came: “We are sorry to announce that this train is delayed (延误).”

That seemed to calm people down and so we all went back to what we were doing before, but soon there was another announcement: we were going to be there for a long time--- a train had broken down in front of us. There was a loud sigh throughout the carriage but then something unexpected happened: complete strangers started talking to each other. I started chatting to a couple of young tourists sitting opposite me. They were from Spain and they were travelling around the UK so I recommended some places they should visit. Next, I really surprised myself by starting a conversation with a businesswoman. She was going to take three months off work to climb Qomolangma. It was great talking to her. Then I decided to get up and go for a walk down the train. I met a woman who had been a student at my school seven years before and knew lots of my teachers.

While we were talking, we heard there was a patient in another part of the train who needed help, and the woman from my school jumped into action. It turned out she was a nurse, and when she came back she was welcome as a hero.

Then, after two and a half hours, we started moving again. Everyone clapped and cheered and some people, complete strangers three hours before, even hugged. I’ll never forget the day the train stopped and people started talking.
