Do you have a hobby? Something you look forward to spending your time with? Something you love to do?1. Or making model airplanes. Sketching. Or making useful things out of waste material. It could be a musical instrument that you love playing. Or singing and dancing.

There are many things that a hobby can give you, apart from an enjoyable time. Sashay was a shy boy but through his interest in model airplanes he learned the value of sticking to a task until it was finished. His model airplane club brought him to get into touch with similar souls.2.

Having a hobby helps you relax and get away from the routines of school.3. You really need this well deserved one, too! It gives you focus, self dependence, confidence and builds your personality. This is an opportunity to lose yourself in an enjoyable activity, away from the pressure of school, so at the end of it, you feel relaxed and yet, mentally charged.

Your hobby defines you.4.And it also shows you what you are good at, and how far you can go, when you apply yourself.

5..For a hobby is: Happiness: something which you look forward to doing. Opportunity: to nurture and develop your special and unique skills and celebrate them. Believe in yourself: makes you understand your strong advantages and improves your confidence. Best in you: brings out your best—for in each one of us there is a best that is only ours. It could be collecting something.(它可能是收集)是关于爱好的。故选F项。 2.根据上文提到的His model airplane club brought him to get into touch with similar souls.(他的模型飞机俱乐部让他能够接触到相似的人),G. He learned to make friends for the first time.(他第一次交朋友)和上句承接自然,因为有相同的爱好,所以能成为朋友。故选G项。 3.根据上文提到的Having a hobby helps you relax and get away from the routines of school.(爱好能帮助你放松,远离学校的常规)与B. It gives you a break.(它让你可以短暂休息)与上句联系紧密,上文的relax与本句的break意义相近,都有休息之意。故选B项。 4.根据下文提到的And it also shows you what you are good at, and how far you can go, when you apply yourself.(它也会让你知道你擅长什么,你能走多远,你什么时候尽全力)与E. It shows your special skills.(它会展示你的特殊才能)可知,两句是并列关系,都在陈述爱好的好处,尤其通过句中的 it will show…和it also show可以看出这两句联系紧密。故选E项。 5.根据下文中的For a hobby is: Happiness: something which you look forward to doing. Opportunity: to nurture and develop your special and unique skills and celebrate them.(因为爱好是幸福,你期待去做的事情;爱好是机会,培养和发展你独特的技能,然后庆幸你拥有了他们)和A. Ever since they were first put on the market in the early 1990s, gentically mondified (GM, 转基因) foods have been increasingly developed and marketed in many countries in the word, mainly on the basis of their promise to end the worldwide food crisis. But can GM technology solve world hunger problems? Even if it would, is it the best solution?

Despite what it promises, GM technology actually has not increased the production potential    of any corp. In fact, studies show that the most widely grown GM crop. GM soybeans, has suffered reduced productivity. For instance, a report than analysed nearly two decades of research on mojor GM food crops shows that GM engineering has failed to significantly increase US crop production.

Something else, however, has been on the rise, While GM seeds are expensive, GM companies tell farmers that they will make good profits by saving money on pesticides(杀虫剂). On the contrary, US government data show that GM crops in the US have produced an overall increase in pesticide use compared to traditional crops. “The promise was that you could use less chemicals and boost production. But nether is true,” said Bill Christison, President of the US National Farm Coalition.

At the same time, the authors of the book World Hunger: Twelve Myths argue that there actually is more than enough food in the world and that the hunger crisis is not caused by production, but by problems in food distribution and politics. These indeed deserve our efforts and money. Meanwhile, the rise in food prices results from the increased use of crops for fuel rather than food, according to a 2008 World Bank report.

As a matter of fact, scientists see better ways to feed the world. Another World Bank report concluded that GM crops have little to offer to the challenges of worldwide poverty and hunger, because better ways out are available, among which “green” farming is supposed to be the first choice.

Celebrity(名人) has become one of the most important representatives of popular culture. Fans used to be crazy about a specific film, but now the public tends to base its consumption(消费) on the interest of celebrity attached to any given product. Besides, fashion magazines have almost abandoned the practice of putting models on the cover because they don’t sell nearly as well as famous faces. As a result, celebrities have realized their unbelievably powerful market potential, moving from advertising for others’ products to developing their own.

Celebrity clothing lines aren’t a completely new phenomenon, but in the past they were typically aimed at the ordinary consumers, and limited to a few TV actresses. Today they’re started by first-class stars whose products enjoy equal fame with some world top brands. The most successful start-ups have been those by celebrities with specific personal style. As celebrities become more and more experienced at the market, they expand their production scale rapidly, covering almost all the products of daily life.

However, for every success story, there’s a related warning tale of a celebrity who overvalued his consumer appeal. No matter how famous the product’s origin is, if it fails to impress consumers with its own qualities it begins to resemble an exercise in self-promotional marketing. And once the initial(最初的) attention dies down, consumer interest might fade, loyalty(忠诚) returning to tried-and-true labels.

Today, celebrities face even more severe embarrassment. The pop-cultural circle might be bigger than ever, but its rate of turnover has speeded up as well. Each misstep threatens to reduce a celebrity’s shelf life, and the same newspaper or magazine that once brought him fame has no problem picking him to pieces when the opportunity appears. Still, the ego’s(自我的) potential for expansion is limitless. Having already achieved great wealth and public recognition, many celebrities see fashion as the next frontier to be conquered. As the saying goes, success and failure always go hand in hand. Their success as designers might last only a short time, but fashion—like celebrity—has always been temporary.

1.Fashion magazines today        .

A.seldom put models on the cover

B.no longer put models on the cover

C.need not worry about celebrities’ market potential

D.judge the market potential of every celebrity correctly

2.A change in the consumer market can be found today that        .

A.price rather than brand name is more concerned

B.producers prefer models to celebrities for advertisements

C.producers prefer TV actresses to film stars for advertisements

D.quality rather than the outside of products is more concerned

3.The underlined sentence in Paragraph 4 indicates that any wrong step will possibly        .

A.decrease the popularity of a celebrity and the sales of his products

On a cold winter day, many years ago, a French art teacher named Pierre Chevalier got on a train in Lyon to go to Paris. When he started his journey, he did not know that it was the beginning of almost 40 years of accidents and near death experiences.

During the journey, the train fell into an icy river, killing 12 passengers. Chevalier managed to swim back to the river bank. He only had a broken leg.

Two years later, Chevalier was on a plane from Paris to Moscow when a door suddenly opened and he fell out. A few minutes later, the plane crashed; 27 people were killed. Chevalier was so lucky that he landed in a haystack(干草堆).

A few years later, he was hit by a bus, but again had no serious injuries. Then a year after that, he was driving on a mountain road when he saw a truck coming straight at him. He drove the car off the road, jumped out, landed in a tree--and watched his car fall 100 meters down the mountain.

"There are two ways you can look at it," Chevalier said. "I' m either the world' s unluckiest man, or the world' s luckiest." When a reporter asked Chevalier what he thought, he chose the "luckiest" one.

Two years ago, aged 71, Chevalier bought his first lottery ticket(彩票) in 50 years and won more than 2 million. After this, a TV company in America said they wanted him to make an advertisement. At first he accepted, but then he changed his mind. Chevalier said he would not fly to Los Angeles for the filming, because he did not want to push his luck. Who knows? If he had accepted the invitation, maybe he would have had another accident. But Mr. Chevalier is a lucky man. If he had had another accident, he probably would have survived that too!

1.In the train accident many years ago, Chevalier______.

A.didn't get injured at all B.was finally pulled out of the river

C.was lucky enough to be alive D.was the only passenger to survive

2.Why did Chevalier refuse to make the advertisement?

A.Because he had won 2 million. B.Because he didn’t want to risk his life.

C.Because he didn’t want to leave home. D.Because he didn't like the TV company.

3.The text mainly talks about______.

A.a man with nine lives B.the unluckiest man in the world

C.a man who traveled around the world D.a man who earned 2 million in a lottery
