Why I Love Cycling

One of the first things I did when I moved to a new city was to hire a bike. Why?1.You travel much faster than on foot and you notice so much more of your surroundings than when in a bus or a car. It’s more appealing to wander down small streets if they seem interesting, as you can quickly get back to the main road.

Besides, I soon discovered plenty more benefits to cycling. A bike means that fewer places, especially in a small city like the one where I live now, feel far away. For example, cycling to work takes me half the time that it would to walk.2.For example, I planned to go to a concert on the other side of town. While my cyclist friends and I simply looked at a map, our friends without bikes had to deal with the complicated bus system.

Of course, there are obvious health benefits of cycling—a bit of extra movement as part of your daily routine can help you keep fit and healthy. Cycling on my way to work also makes me feel more energetic in the mornings.

3.While cars pollute the environment, bikes are carbon-neutral. Furthermore, thanks to being petrol-free, bikes are cheaper to run, buy and fix than cars. Even if you don’t own a car, a bike can pay for itself when compared to the price of bus tickets.

4.Always wear a helmet, pay attention to other traffic and don’t forget your lights at night. Make sure you know the road rules, especially in a new place. Some cities are more cycle-friendly than others.5.Luckily, where I live now is pretty easy to ride a bike around, thanks to having lots of cycle lanes and not too many hills!

A.However, be careful when cycling.

B.A bike means more happy time with your friends.

C.I have to learn to ride safely on the right of the road.

D.Importantly, cycling also helps to reduce your carbon footprint.

E.Riding a bike also means you’re not restricted by bus timetables.

F.And sometimes city roads are difficult or unpleasant for cyclists.

G.Seeing a city by bike is ideal for settling in and learning your way around.

Slowly but surely, we're moving closer and closer to 5G world. From smart-home security to self-driving cars, all the internet-connected devices in our life will be able to talk to each other at lightning-fast speeds with reduced delay. Objectively speaking, the fastest 4G download speeds in the US top out at an average of 19. 42 Mbps. But by comparison 5G promises gigabit (千兆)speeds.

“5G is one of those heralds (使者),along with artificial intelligence , of this coming data age.” said Steve Koenig, senior director of market research for the Consumer Technology Association. “The self-driving vehicle is a great emblem of this data ageand that is to sayit is a sign of time, because with one single task, driving, you have massive amounts of data coming from the vehicle itself, and a variety of sensors are collecting a lot of information to model its environment as it moves. It's pulling in data from other vehicles about road conditions down the lane. It could be weather information, and also connected infrastructure (基础设施)construction. There is lots of data behind that task, which is why we need the high speed.

And virtual reality glasses and headsets haven't yet broken the mainstream, but tech companies are joyfully betting that these devices will eventually replace our smart phones. With 5G, that could actually happen. This is notable because companies such as Apple are reportedly developing AR glasses to assist— or even replace — smart phones.

Ericsson stated at February's Mobile World Congress how smart glasses could become faster and lighter with a 5G connection, because instead of being weighed down with components, the glasses could rely on hardware for processing power.

But don't get too excited. There is still a lot of work to be done in the meantime, including various trials to make sure the radios play nicely with hardware and infrastructure construction so 5G isn't concentrated only in big cities.

1.What is the first paragraph mainly about?

A.A right security of 5G. B.The super speed of 5G.

C.A potential dream of 5G. D.The present world of 5G.

2.What do some tech companies expect of virtual reality glasses?

A.They will be heavier than present ones.

B.They will process power on their own.

C.They will serve people instead of smart phones.

D.They will bring a big fortune to tech companies.

3.What will the author tell us in the next paragraph?

A.How to fully expand 5G coverage.

B.How to effectively reduce 5G trials.

C.How to nicely operate 5G hardware.

D.How to widely construct 5G big cities.

Although most people believe that owning a business or working on an idea means you are an entrepreneur (企业家), the reality is that entrepreneurship is so much more than just these two things. It is about the ability to innovate (创新) by helping society progress. For those who aspire to become real entrepreneurs, the path to turn your thought into entrepreneurship is one that requires you to know yourself.

Recognize what skills you are good at. Everybody wants money. But many fail to realize that money is the extension ( 延伸) of your skills, so the most important aspect of learning to make money starts by knowing what skills you have. Make a list of your skills and you should see where your strengths lie. The goal with this exercise is to recognize what skills you are good at naturally. Make good use of them until you finally change more of your skills into usable abilities for your business.

Make use of your confidence to create belief. Confidence is a result of repeating one thing. The more you practice doing something, the more confident you become in the process needed to see it to the end. Starting a business requires confidence, so most people who have zero confidence in the process fail to get started because it is an unknown area. You have to believe in the idea, the process and the ability within yourself to bring your business project to life. Without confidence, belief doesn't exist; without belief, the chances of giving up are high.

Allow your love to become enthusiasm. The last ingredient outside of your skills and confidence is the ability to focus on ideas that you feel enthusiastic about. Having passion will push you to struggle for something you love and turn that longing into action. The goal is to identify topics of interest so that you can start showing some aspects of passion as you start your project. The closer a project is to your heart, the less pessimistic you will become when results don't go your way.

1.What can we learn from Paragraph 2?

A.It is very difficult for us to know our skills.

B.Knowing your skills is the first step to learn to make money.

C.To recognize your skills will surely make your business successful.

D.To recognize your skills is more important than making money.

2.What's the importance of enthusiasm for us?

A.It can help us find out what we love.

B.It can make us never feel pessimistic.

C.It can push us to work hard on our goals.

D.It will make us succeed in whatever we are doing.

3.What does this passage mainly talk about?

A.The advantages of confidence.

B.The ability to focus on ideas.

C.Why people want to be an entrepreneur.

D.How you can go from ideas to an entrepreneur.

Recently I accepted a challenge to join Naasih, a motivational speaker, on a voyage through India designed to refresh my spirit. After too many hours, Naasih and I arrived in the slum(贫民窟) just as the sun was breaking across the smoggy Delhi sky. It seemed as if the small houses extended for miles, an ocean of tin roofs and laundry lines.

Finally, Naasih stopped and turned to me. “Give me your bag,” he said. I handed it to him. I had promised to follow his directions, and in return, I was hoping to find whatever I thought was missing from my life. “I will meet you back here at sunset,” Naasih said and walked away.

I began to walk through the streets. No one paid too much attention to the tall, hairless man walking among them. My throat was dry, my stomach turning over with hunger. And then I saw a small house and I knocked softly on the door.

A young, skinny man, no older than 25, came to answer it. As I soon found out, the man is named Sankar and he was a Lakers fan. I also learned that he was a recently graduated university student who had left his family to go after a dream of success in the big city. Instead, he had found work in the back of a restaurant.

After lunch, Sankar took me to play basketball with a group of children in a trash-filled field down the road. The sun was beginning to fall as the laughter of the basket games echoed (发出回声) across the slum. I had been so caught up in my day with Sankar. I had started the morning in fear and exhaustion, but I was ending the day connected to something much larger.

After the game, Sankar and I walked to Rata Road. There stood Naasih. He said, “You’re shining, Leon.” I had been knocked entirely out of my comfort zone, and I felt that wild burst of life that had been missing from my own.

1.Why did the author come to Sankar's home?

A.To relieve his hunger and thirst. B.To respond to Naasih's request.

C.To learn how disadvantaged people live. D.To play a game with him.

2.What can we learn about Sankar?

A.He studies cooking in university. B.He finds a good job in the city.

C.He doesn't live as he dreams D.He has a great talent for basketball.

3.What does Naasih mean by saying “You're shining, Leon” in the last paragraph?

A.Leon is an inspiration to him. B.Leon has changed his state of mind.

C.Leon is popular among the children. D.Leon is good at connecting with others.

4.What is the best title of the passage?

A.The Pleasure from Indian Slums B.The Power of Sport Games

C.A Voyage for Finding the Self D.A Chance to Make Acquaintances
