The best students won’t only have good grades. The following are some of the new rules. 1. Have you ever copied others’ work during an exam? Don’t do it again. That’s not what an honest student should do. If you played computer games for two hours in your room, don’t tell your parents you were doing your homework. 2. April is Bird-Loving Month in China. Is your school doing anything to celebrate? You should join! That way, you can learn more about animals and learn how to protect them. 3. When your classmates are in trouble, remember to give them a hand. You know a friend in need is a friend indeed. Try to do more for others. 4. Try to stay away from Web pages that are bad for you. Find good websites and use them for homework. 5. Have you ever thought that people could live on the moon? Maybe you can discover a new planet someday. Don’t look down on new ideas. Mr. White’s family decided to repair their house. Mr. White bought the house two and a half years ago. Since his kids were growing up, he and his wife wanted to make some changes to the house. They decided to knock down their living room wall to open up the space. When the wooden walls were moved, they were shocked to find a lizard (蜥蜴) stuck in the small space between the walls. The lizard’s foot was stuck by a nail (钉子) which was knocked into the wall from the other side several months ago. However, they wondered how the lizard had survived so long without moving from that place. The family decided to wait for a while and see how the lizard survived several months without moving. While they were doing other things, they kept an eye on the lizard. The son, Ray, suddenly shouted, “Dad, look here!” Another lizard appeared, carrying food to the stuck lizard’s mouth. That was a real surprise! Everyone was touched that the lizard fed the other one for all this time. Both lizards had never-ending hope for each other and carried their hearts with love and care. Why can’t we humans always carry that kind of love in our hearts? Life is full of all kinds of difficulties. What we can do is to give our hand to the one in need and share our love. Sharing is caring. 1.What did the White family find when moving the wooden walls? A. A lizard died between the walls. B. A lizard’s foot was hurt by the fallen wall. C. Each year, the famous Oxford Dictionaries chooses its Word of the Year. The word is carefully chosen depending on how popular it is and how well it explains the year. However, this year they didn’t actually choose a word at all. Instead, they chose a “face with tears(眼泪) of joy” emoji (表情符号). This was the world’s most used emoji in 2015, according to research done by the Oxford University Press. It made up 20 percent of all emojis used in the UK and 17 percent of those used in the US. Emojis started from Japan in the 1990s. Through the years, the simple, small pictures have changed the way people communicate online. According to New Yorker magazine, a survey in 2013 showed that 74 percent of people in the US and 82 percent in China had used emojis. About 6, 000,000,000 emoji pictures are flying around the world every day through messages. Although some worry that emojis will make people’s language skills weak, fans say they are fun and help them express their feelings more easily. “Emojis are no longer just for sending messages to teenagers. Instead, they have become a kind of expression, which can cross language barriers (障碍),” Oxford Dictionaries said in a statement, explaining their uncommon choice. “Emoji culture has become so popular that emojis have their own way and stories.” Some even think emojis can take the place of words. Fred Benenson, an American data (数据) engineer, translated American novel Moby Dick into Emoji Dick. The book has even been kept by the US Library of Congress (美国国会图书馆). 1.The Word of the Year for 2015 is ________. A. a common word B. a sad face C. a boy’s name D. a happy face with tears 2. According to the passage, we know ____________. A. Emojis started from the UK in the last century B. A large number of Emoji pictures are used around the world C. Learning Emojis is the best way to improve people’s language skills D. Emojis has become the main ways to communicate online instead of words 3.The novel Moby Dick is mentioned in the last paragraph to show ________. A. how popular and useful the Emojis are B. words will become more important C. Moby Dick is popular around the world D. Emoji Dick is considered meaningless 4.What is the best title for the passage? On the first evening, the three of us were tired after walking for about eight hours. We soon fell asleep. In the morning, I was surprised to find the bag of food had been open. “Bears,” said Joe, “we should hang the food in a tree tonight.” Later that day we stopped in a beautiful field by a river. We put up the tent and fell asleep. During the night the bears came again. This time they took the food from the tree. “Bears can climb trees. They can smell food from a long way away,” said Ben. “We must keep the camp clean. Bears must think our rubbish is food,” I said. “And we should make lots of noise, too. If they know where we are, they may not come any closer,” said Joe. “But if you see a bear,” said Ben, “you mustn't make any sudden moves or make a sound, and you mustn’t run either. No one can run faster in the forest than a bear. And remember we don’t have a gun to keep us safe.” That night, we went to sleep ... or we tried to. The next day, while the others were resting, I went for a walk in the forest. Suddenly, I saw a baby bear playing with some sticks and stones. He looked so soft and friendly, and I thought, “If I reach out, I can just touch him.” There was a loud noise behind me. I didn’t dare to move, not even turn my head. There was another loud noise. The baby bear looked up, and ran towards me. I turned pale and he ran past me into the woods. I couldn’t turn round until a few minutes later. Then I saw the baby bear and his huge mother walking away. I ran back to my friends. I have never run so fast. For the next 10 days, every time there was sudden noise, my blood went cold. 1.Who moved the food bag on the first night? A. Joe. B. Ben. C. The writer. D. A bear. 2.In Ben’s opinion, which is the right way to protect ourselves when we see a bear? A. We mustn’t move suddenly. B. We should make lots of noise. C. We can touch him softly. D. We should run as quickly as we can. 3.What was the loud noise behind the writer? A. It was the wind. The weather changed in the forest. B. It was another baby bear. He wanted to play with stones, too. C. It was the baby bear’s mother. She was coming to find her baby. D. It was the writer’s friends. They were ready to fight with the bear. 4.Why did the writer run back fast to his friends? A. He was really scared. B. He thought his friends were in danger. C. A bear ran after him and wanted to catch him. D. He had some good news to share with his friends.
