Everyone wants to become perfect. Unluckily, being perfect may not happen. Here’s some useful advice about how to refuse perfection.

No more comparisons (比较)

Compared with others, you may feel that you are not perfect. The solution? End your comparison. No comparing, no pain.

Accept your mistakes

When perfection is your aim, mistakes mean failure. Your fear of criticism (批评) may keep you from taking risks or trying new things. Nobody is perfect. Take it easy. You needn’t take others’ words seriously.

Ask for help

Part of beating perfection is accepting that mistakes are part of human beings. If you don’t give up, you will be successful one day. You shouldn’t prevent yourself from asking for help you need to really improve.

Don’t judge (评判) yourself

Find a trusted friend, family member or teacher who is not a perfectionist—someone who can take criticism and has learned from his or her mistakes. Share your goals and achievements with him or her, no matter how small they are.

Pay attention to your language

Cut out the words like never, always and should from your self-talk. Carry a notebook and take notes whenever you want to say these words. Realizing this means you’re well on your way to changing yourself better.

The more confidence you develop, the less you’ll feel the need to be perfect. And when you give up perfection, happiness can begin right now.

1.How many pieces of advice are mentioned in the passage.

_______________________________________________________________________________

2.What may keep the people from taking risks or trying new things?

_______________________________________________________________________________

3.What does “they” in Paragraph 5 refer to?

_______________________________________________________________________________

4.Translate the underlined sentence into Chinese.

_______________________________________________________________________________

5.Give a proper title to the passage.

You are in the shopping mall and see a lady trying to open the door with bags in both hands. You help her open the door. “Thank you!” she says warmly.1.

The most widely-used reply is “You’re welcome”. This is what you might have learned in your textbook. It is formal. So you’ll hear the shopping assistant reply with this – and hopefully with a smile, too!2.

While the textbook is correct, there are other good choices as well. That’s because spoken English is quite informal (非正式的). More common replies these days include “No problem”. 3. It’s also common when you’ve helped someone with a favor − for example, helping someone move a heavy box. It means it wasn’t difficult to give a helping hand. “Sure thing” is another popular reply.

4. If you’re speaking with an Australian friend, they might say “no worries”. Americans like using “Sure” or “It’s fine”.

However, 5.So try these phrases and find the reply that suits your own style.

A.Another formal reply is “my pleasure”, which is getting outdated.

B.How would you reply?

C.People usually say it among friends.

D.People in most countries say “thank you” the same way.

E.There is no wrong way to reply to “thank you” .

F.Different countries use different way to reply.

When everyone in China is wearing masks (口罩) to stop the COVID-19 (新冠肺炎), many people in Western countries don’t seem to want to do the same. For example, an Italian lawmaker was criticized (批评) by his coworkers when he went to work with a mask. They said he made them nervous. But why do the East and West have different ideas about wearing masks? Let’s take a look.

Western ideas about masks

In the West, people should wear masks only when they get sick, for example. People see masks as a tool (工具) to protect sick people and stop disease from spreading (传播), so healthy people don’t need to wear them. But as the number of COVID-19 cases is growing around the world, people in the West are changing their ideas.

Mask culture in the East

In Asian countries like China and Japan, wearing masks is common. In 1910, Chinese doctor Wu Liande invented (发明) the modern medical mask. During the 2003 SARS epidemic (流行病疫), people in China and East Asia also used masks to protect themselves.

In Japan, wearing masks shows your politeness (礼貌) when you get a cold or flu. Some Japanese also turn masks into fashion accessories (配饰). They have different colors and patterns to choose to match their clothes. Some young women wear masks when they don’t have their makeup (化妆) on.

Many pop stars in Asia also use masks to protect their privacy (隐私). This cultural and historical background has made it easier for people in the East to wear masks when epidemics break out.
