任务型阅读。(共5小题,每小题2分,计10分)阅读短文,并按要求完成下列试题。 Some countries have large numbers of earthquakes. Japan is one of them. One of the most serious earthquakes in world history took place in Japan in 1923. The shock and fires caused by it destroyed much of Tokyo and Yokohama and left more than 7000 dead. Other countries do not have many. For examples, there are few earthquakes in Britain, France, Germany. There is often a great noise during an earthquake, but it is not always. The earth rocks. Houses fall down. Railway lines are broken. Sometimes many people are killed in an earthquake. People think earthquakes often happen near volcanoes(火山), but this is not always true. The centers of some are under the sea. The bottom of the sea suddenly moves. The powerful forces inside the earth break the rocks. The coast is rocking and great waves are caused there. These waves travel long distances and rush over the land when they reach it. They are strong enough to break down houses and other buildings; sometimes they break more buildings than earthquake itself. What kind of building stands up best in an earthquake? A building with concrete(水泥) walls is perhaps the best. A steel frame(框架) will make it even stronger. The frame holds the different parts together and the walls do not easily fall. There is less chance of fire because concrete and steel(钢材) does not burn. This kind of building is the safest. Today modern concrete and steel apartment buildings are commonly seen in cities of Japan. 1.Why do we say that an earthquake is terrible? _____________________________________________________________ 2.What kind of building is the safest for us to live in against earthquakes? _____________________________________________________________ 3.Which country has the largest number of earthquakes, Britain, Japan, or France? _________________________________________________________________ 4.判断正误:正确的在括号里写T,错误写F。 ( ) The text mainly tells us how to protect ourselves when the earthquake happens. 5.Put the underlined sentences into Chinese

Alice was now in a long dark room with doors all round the walls, and she could not see the White Rabbit anywhere. She tried to open the doors, but they were all locked (锁上的). “How will I ever get out again?” she thought sadly. Then she saw a little glass table with three legs, and on the top of it was a very small gold key. Alice quickly took the key and tried it in all the doors, but she couldn’t open any. Then she saw another door, a door that was only forty centimetres high. The little gold key unlocked this door easily, but Alice couldn’t get through it—she was much too big. So she lay on the floor and looked through the open door, into a beautiful garden with green trees and bright flowers. “I’d like to be out there—not in this dark room. Why can’t I get smaller?” It was already a very strange day, and Alice was beginning to think that anything was possible. After a while she locked the door again, got up and went back to the glass table. She put the key down and then she saw a little bottle on the table. Round the neck of the bottle was a piece of paper with the words DRINK ME in large letters. “It can be dangerous to drink out of strange bottles,” she said. “What will it do to me?” She drank a little bit very slowly. The taste was very nice and very soon Alice finished the bottle. “I think I’m getting smaller and smaller every second.” And she was. “And now,” she said happily, “I can get through the little door into that beautiful garden.” She ran at once to the door. Then she remembered that the little gold key was back on the glass table. She ran back to the table for it, but she was now much too small! The key was high above her, on top of the table. She tried very hard to climb up the table leg, but she couldn’t do it. At last, tired and unhappy, she got angry with herself. Soon she saw a little glass box near her on the floor. How do you feel when you stay in hospital alone? Jenny, 13, a US student, feels bored. She knows the feeling because she has been in hospital many times herself. One day, she thought of an idea—if patients could get some books to read, they would feel better. So, from May, she and many of her friends began to collect books for hospital patients. In six months the students collected 1,250 books at school. They decided to donate the books to the North Shore Medical Centre, a children’s hospital next door to their school. “There are books for kids of all ages, from babies up to high school level.” said Jenny. The students put the books into “early readers”, “middle readers” and “advanced readers”.
