Acupuncture is known as “zhenjiu” in Chinese. Growing up, I'd always considered it out of date. As we know, acupuncture treatment lasts a long period and causes a lot of pain. Sometimes simply taking a pill can treat the same illness. But my experience made me change my mind.

Last month, I slept through a flight from London to Beijing. When I woke up, I found that I could no longer move my right arm and fingers. There was no pain. My arm simply didn't follow my brain's instructions to move, as if it was no longer mine.

One doctor said he could do nothing but give me some pills. “Rest for two months first and come back for an examination.” I felt great fear.

When I felt helpless, my friend, an acupuncturist in Sichuan, offered to help. I started my acupuncture treatment the next day. At first, I was worried. After a few days, I could move my fingers. Two weeks later, I could use chopsticks. Within a month, I got almost well. It was amazing. How do these tiny needles treat illnesses? Is it magic? Or simply luck? I tried to find out.

Acupuncture first appeared in China more than 2000 years ago. It works by improving the smooth flow of “qi”. “Qi” flows through “jingluo” throughout the body.

Although acupuncture can't treat all illnesses, at least it creates a good starting point to build a healthy body. Recently, it has spread internationally, which shows the power of acupuncture. I hope this kind of traditional Chinese medicine will bring health and happiness to friends all over the world.

巴黎自行车计划

Like all big cities, Paris has a traffic problem: lots of cars, lots of traffic jams and lots of pollution. So in 2007, the city began a plan called Velib to improve the situation.

Under the Velib plan people can take a bicycle, use it for as long as they want, and then leave it at the same or another bicycle station. The first halfhour on the bike is free, but if you don't return it after 30 minutes, you have to pay. There are about 20, 000 of them in the city, and around 1, 450 bicycle stations.

Paris is not the first city to have a plan like this. Lyon started a "free" bicycle plan many years ago. And not everybody thinks it's a great idea. One Parisian said, "These bicycles are only for short journeys."

A city spokesman said, "The bicycle plan won't solve all of traffic problems, of course. But it might reduce pollution levels in the air. Traffic, together with factory smog, is a big problem. Everyone knows about global warming. It's because there's so much pollution in the world. The bikes might help people to lead a healthier life, too. There aren't any simple solutions to traffic problems and pollution in cities. But unless we do something now, there will be more traffic jams and temperatures will continue to rise, so the problems of our environment will get worse."

3.Which city first started the "free" bicycle plan in French?

5.What is the main idea of the passage?

A.The pollution of Paris. B.The ways to solve pollution.

C.The number of bicycles in Paris. D.The bicycle plan of Paris for the traffic problem and pollution.

Do you want to improve your physics and chemistry grades? Well, maybe you should first learn something about the struggles of great scientists.

The American Psychological Association did an interesting study. More than 400 students from schools in New York City took part in it. The students were divided into three groups. Group 1 read a typical textbook that describes the achievements of great scientists. Group 2 read about those scientists' personal struggles. The last group read about the scientists' intellectual struggles. These stories about struggles also told students how the scientists dealt with these obstacles.

The students took a science exam before the study. After the sixweek study, they took another. Scientists found those in Groups 2 and 3 improved their science grades. Students in Group 1 didn't see a grade increase. Some of them even had lower grades after the study.

The study was led by Xiaodong LinSiegler, a teacher at Columbia University. According to Xiaodong, kids often think Einstein was truly intelligent. They believe they will never match him. Many of them fail to realize that any success requires a long journey. Along the way, there are many failures.

Students who read the struggle stories more probably said that great scientists were like themselves. The “great minds” also had to overcome obstacles to achieve success.

Xiaodong says today's science textbooks fail to bring science to life. As a result, students seldom regard science as part of their everyday lives. Instead, they just see a long list of facts that they have to remember. Xiaodong thinks textbooks should include more stories about how great scientists had to struggle to succeed. And students should focus more on how these scientists dealt with the obstacles they met along the way.

Nexi is one of a new generation of robots. It moves on wheels and can pick up objects. But robots like Nexi are more than just entertaining toys.

Nexi, a social robot created by scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT), can express human emotions. Roboticists at MIT call Nexi a “social robot”. 1. Nexi can look sad, mad, and even bored. Some social robots can also “read” our facial expressions.

2. Autom is a robot health coach. It has a screen where you enter information about what food you ate that day or how much you exercised. Autom has a face with eyes that move. 3. Autom gives you advice about your diet and exercise and drives you to do better.

In a test, Autom helped people lose weight better than other ways of recording diet information. Breazeal thinks it's because Autom used facial expressions and words of encouragement. In other words, Autom communicated like a real person. In fact, many people who used Autom gave the robot a new name and talked to it. 4.

In the future, humans may communicate with social robots just like they do with other people. 5. Let's wait and see what will happen in the future!
