Most of the women I know, including myself, are starved for time. I sometimes try to do  the chores all without asking (or paying) for assistance. I grew up in a household where my parents took care of all the chores including the housekeeping, lawn maintenance (草坪养护), etc. Looking back, I’m sure they had to make sacrifices to do things for my sister and me. But I think we all can agree on time savers as a positive, welcome contribution.

I made a decision about 5 years ago that I would hire a lawn maintenance service, so that Ted didn’t have to spend his time while home on the weekends taking care of our yard. I didn’t think twice about it and still feel it is money well spent. His travel schedule is very busy and by paying for this service, I get to spend more quality time with my significant other!

When it came to doing something similar for myself, I struggled. I kept telling myself that others are able to keep up with much more than my demands & schedule. I cast the idea back and forth of hiring a housekeeper for over three years, before I decided to take the step.

True to my nature I researched my options online, asked some coworkers and friends for recommendations and made a decision to take a meeting with a nationally known chain. I met with one of their sale representative in my house and decided to move forward. She said that she wasn’t there to push the cleaning services. Instead, she was there to tell me how much time I’d save by purchasing her service.

I decided to keep a spring cleaning and then once a month after that. Ultimately I only ended up keeping up this particular service for about 4 months due to some quality concerns, but I would definitely do it again and am in the market for a new housekeeping service. I loved having some time for me and no longer feel guilty for paying.

C.She decides to learn from her parents to do the chores by herself.

2.What can we learn from paragraph 2 and 3?

A.The author had to take care of the yard before she paid for the service.

B.The author’s husband was not willing to do the housework.

C.The author paid for the service for herself without hesitation.

D.The author loves her husband very much.

3.What touched the author and made her decide to buy the service for herself?

A.Her coworkers and friends persuaded her.

B.The quality of the service is perfect.

C.The service can save her a lot of time.

D.The price of the service is lower than any others.

4.What does the author mainly intend to tell us?

A.Women should take more responsibility for the household.

B.We should choose the cleaning services carefully.

C.To save time, it is worth paying for the cleaning services.

D.It’s important to keep the house clean and tidy.

Landfills are where most of the world’s plastics end up and a fair amount of it ends up in the world’s oceans. But a new British recycling firm wants it to end up here.

There is a great demand right now for recycled material. There’s a great deal of interest in getting recycling into the plastics industry specially, and so we are really going to further the ability to get plastic into the circular economy.

The firm called Recycling Technologies is breaking down plastic, then turning it into fuel oils or raw material to make new plastics. Basically, currently all we do is we make a hydrocarbon soup and then we take the materials out at different temperatures, so the higher temperatures, the waxes separate out, then we cool it a bit more, and the heavy oils then we call it, a bit more the light oils, and then the rest comes out. It’s naphtha, the gases that don’t condense (凝结) out. We actually use the fuel for the process. Their process is creating a heavy fuel oil that works for marine vessels (海洋船舶). We call it a clean material, because it has very little sulfur in it, in fact almost none, which certainly also fits with the new regulations for marine fill, where they’re asking for much lower sulfur around the world. So it’s a very valuable product.

Right now, the firm is recycling about 7,000 tons of plastic a year, but says it can quickly increase. We are designing to a four-day installation (装置). We will basically come in six ice-free containers which will stand on end, fixed together, and we plug in play mode and the aim is to be up and running within four days. So this is definitely not a refinery (提炼厂) concept.

This is much more a piece of stand-alone industrial equipment. The company has set the ambitious goal of selling 1300 of their recycling units around the world during the next decade, and expect they will be able to recycle 9 million tons of plastic each year.

1.From the last sentence of paragraph1 we know that the British recycling firm ______.

A.wants the plastic waste to be kept in landfill

B.wants the plastic waste to be poured in the ocean

C.thinks the plastic waste should be recycled

D.thinks the plastic waste should not be used any more

2.What can we infer from the third paragraph?

A.Plastic can break down by itself.

B.Temperature plays an important role in breaking down plastic.

C.Plastic will be broken down into three matters.

D.Light oil is thought to be clean because it contains little sulfur.

3.Which statement can best describe the four-day recycling installation?

A.It is quite new and difficult to accept.

B.It’s complex and skeptical.

C.It’s helpful and promising.

D.It’s dangerous and unpredictable.

Artificial intelligence (AI人工智能) technology may soon be a useful tool for doctors. It may help them better understand and treat diseases like breast cancer in ways that were never before possible.

Rishi Rawat teaches AI at the University of Southern California’s (USC) Clinical Science Center in Los Angeles. He is part of a team of scientists who are researching how AI and machine learning can more easily recognize cancerous growths in the breast. Rawat provides information about cancer cells to a computer. He says this data helps the machine learn. “You can put the data into them and they will learn the patterns and the pattern recognition that’s important to making decisions.”

David Agus is another USC researcher. He believes that “machines are not going to take the place of doctors.” “Computers will not treat patients, but they will help make certain decisions and look for things that the human brain can’t recognize these patterns by itself.”

Once a cancerous growth is removed, doctors still have to treat the patient to reduce the risk of cancer returning. The form of treatment depends on the kind of cancer. Currently, researchers take a thin piece of tissue (组织), put it on a small piece of glass and add color to better see the cells. That process could take days or even longer. Scientists say artificial intelligence can do something better than just count cells. Through machine learning, it can recognize complex patterns, or structures, and learn how the cells are organized.

The hope is that machines will soon be able to make a quick identification of cancer that is free of human mistakes. The University of Southern California researchers are now only studying breast cancer. But doctors predict artificial intelligence will one day make a difference in all forms of cancer.

1.What can we infer from the passage?

A.Computers will replace doctors one day.

B.AI technology help doctors treat diseases mainly through counting cells.

C.Cancer once cured will not come back again.

D.Breast cancer patients will benefit a lot from the AI technology application.

2.Where can you most probably see the article?

A.Medical instructions. B.Textbook.

C.Newspaper. D.Science fiction.

3.What does the passage mainly talk about?

A.Artificial intelligence to make doctors better.

B.Great benefits from artificial intelligence.

C.New discoveries about cancer.

D.The process to recognize cancer cells.
