I grew up in New Jersey and didn’t spend a night outdoors until I turned 30, when I decided I should know how to set up a tent. I attended a month-long course in the Absaroka Mountains in Wyoming and learned to be comfortable without a roof over my head. Ever since, I’ve tried to go camping once a year, to keep up my skills. I’d been telling my son about the joys of the great outdoors, and he was eager to join me. And I was eager for him to experience at a young age what it had taken me so long to discover. Yet I was also worried. It seemed that every time I went camping, I forgot something---like a frying pan or my knife. I could get by with these mistakes when I was on my own. But with my son along, it was a different story. So, with our supplies checked again and again, we piled into the car and headed north. After 20 minutes, my son turned and asked, "How much farther, Dad? "I’d worried that five miles might be too much for him, but the lake had seemed the perfect destination. I began to tell stories. But after a steep grade, he quit. Then I reached for my bag of M&M’s---the normally forbidden treat meant to be saved until our work was done. Three dozen candy-coated chocolate later, we found the lake. We were excited. I showed him how to set up the tent. As darkness fell, my son laughed himself to sleep. In the morning, the stove wouldn’t light. My son had sardines and M&M’s for breakfast and pronounced it the best meal he had ever eaten. After a few hours, we went back home. The following year, we got rained out, and the year after that, time got away from us. But next weekend, we’re heading out for another overnight. A bag of M&M’s is already in my pack. 1.It can be concluded that the writer used to_________. A.take his knife each time B.meet some unexpected trouble C.fail to reach his destination D.prepare very well 2.The underlined sentence "it was a different story" in Paragraph 2 means________. A.he was a careless man B.he should be more careful C.his son would help him a lot D.his son would handle the mistake 3.Why did the writer tell the stories during the walk? A.To encourage his son. B.To meet his son’s request. C.To let his son forget the walk. D.To take a good rest. 4.Why will the writer still carry a bag of M&M’s during the next camping? A.Because they were his best meal. B.Because they were main camping food. C.Because they were easy to carry. D.Because they were his son’s favorite.

Many children love using a trampoline(蹦床)for fun. They love the excitement the activity brings to them. But are trampolines safe to use? Starting in the early 1990s, trampolines saw a major increase in popularity. In 1989, 140,000 trampolines were sold in the United States and by 1998 that number had increased to 640,000. But with the increase in popularity there was a rise in pain. From 1990 to 1995, trampolines-related injuries jumped by 98% and in 1999 over 100,000 kids were treated in the emergency room because of using trampolines. The data behind the danger is clear, but parents may not know that even though trampolines are made for children, they are not suitable for kids under the age of six. Kait Ellen posted an article on Facebook about her visit to a trampoline gym with her son Colton. Actually the visit was anything but enjoyable for the little guy. Colton, who was three years old, broke his bone while jumping up and down on a trampoline. And in her article there was a warning from a government department, which advised that children under the age of six should never use a trampoline. In 2004, the first indoor trampoline park opened Thursday in LasVegas, Nevada and parks have been growing rapidly ever since. Parents should keep in mind the advice of experts for keeping their kids safe. To keep your kids from getting injured while using trampolines, you’d better keep them away from them. 1.What’s the author’s purpose in writing Paragraph 2? A.To make comparisons. B.To show trampolines’ popularity in America. C.To advise people to buy trampolines. D.To prove trampolines are unsafe. 2.How did Kait Ellen learn the danger of trampolines? A.Through the advice of expert. B.Through a government department. C.Through her son’s accident. D.Through the data behind the danger. 3.What’s the author’s attitude towards trampolines? A.Negative B.Cautious C.Uncertain. D.Approving. 4.What’s the passage mainly about ? A.Kids can easily get hurt while playing. B.Trampolines are dangerous for kids under 6. C.Parents often make trampolines for their children. D.Trampolines are very popular with children.

Walk Out of the Comfort Zone and Try New Things For most high school students, free periods (课,节) are useless. From what I have seen, few do homework. 1.. This makes it impossible for those who actually want to do work to complete any. As a senior next year, I think extra periods should be used to take optional subjects. 2.. Now is the time for us students to choose a suitable one. We will experiment in different fields of study. We will never know if we are interested or talented in a subject if we don’t try it. In my 8th grade, I was told that I had to take an art class as a graduation requirement; so in the 9th grade I took Studio and Art. One of the projects was to build a clay pot, but I built mine incorrectly, so it broke in the kiln (窑). 3.. Now I know for sure that I do not want to be an artist. However, the class was one of my favorites that year. I was able to try new activities and test my ability. 4.! College is when we should focus on a specific major, but high school is when we have to figure it out. Half of all college students change their major at some point. By doing that hundreds of dollars are wasted on classes that they would have never needed to take. So use our extra periods to find out what we want to do in college. 5.. A.Our school offers many classes B.We should find out what we are good at C.I’ve avoided anything related to art since then D.Instead, many are on their phones and talking E.I found out that I have no artistic ability at all F.Walk out of our comfort zone and try new things G.The classes we choose can influence us in the future

Rather than to take the airplane all the way, they could fly to Vancouver and then take the train from west to east across Canada. The thought which they could cross the whole continent was exciting. Canada is the second large country in the world. One of the most popular cities is Vancouver on which many people live. The coast north of Vancouver has some of the oldest and most beautiful forest in the world. It is so wet there that the trees are extreme tall. Looked out of the train window, they saw mountain goats, which were being protected, and even a grizzly bear and an eagle. They learned that most Canadians lived within a few hundred kilometers of the USA border, and the population is only slightly over 30 million.
