For us students who are studying at school, the time of exams is very stressful and difficult. Some people find exam times so bad that they become ill, because they
are afraid of failing; they are afraid of letting their parents and family down. If exams are really making you ill or worried, don’t hide your feelings. Talk to someone about it. Maybe you can speak to a friend, or someone in your family, or teachers at your place of study. If one person doesn’t help you, ask someone else.
How to get through exams? Here are some① (建议):
Ask a teacher or tutor about how to review your lessons, and exam skills-how to work when you are in an exam.
Take short rests during your time of work. If your mind is tired, it will not remember well.
Plan your work: study at times when you know you will work at your best.
Get enough sleep, and eat ② (健康)food.
You need exercise to work well. Walk, run, play sports-whatever you enjoy.
Stop thinking about the future and failing.
If you feel ill, talk to someone about your worries. But don’t be too relaxed!③Some stress over exams makes you work hard for them.
If it upsets you to talk to your friends about an exam when it is finished, don’t do it! In fact, don’t even think about the exam you have finished. What is done is done. ④ 你不能改变你已经写的东西!
To this advice, we could add:
If you are studying in the evening, don’t go straight to bed. Your mind will still be“going round and round”-thinking too much. Do something else, maybe walk or get exercise. Choose something that will relax you, and make you think of other things.

Britain’s smallest school was closed down because its only pupil failed to turn up for class, a famous Britain newspaper reported in May.
The newspaper said the six-year-old girl’s parents were unhappy with a teacher who just got the new job to teach the only pupil.
The school had been closed for the last nine months after its former(前任的)teacher retired and the only other pupil moved on to a secondary(中等的)school. The new teacher, Ms. Puckey was to start teaching the girl and reopen(再次打开)the school.
But the girl’s mother is keeping her daughter at home.
“I was not pleased with the new teacher,”the mother said. “I had told the old teacher as far back as last September that if Ms. Puckey got the job, my child would not be going to school.”
The school lies on an island off the northeast of Scotland. Although there was only one pupil, the school is very good in many ways and has a headmaster, three computers, a television, and an art room as well as a school house with three bedrooms.

There is not enough oil in the world now. As time goes by, it becomes less and less, so what are we going to do when it runs out? Perhaps we will go back to using horses, carriages and bicycles.
In the Second World War, some people didn’t use gas made from petroleum(石油) in their cars. They made gas from wood and plants instead. The car didn’t go fast, but they ran, so this was better than nothing. However, in the future, we can’t cut down all our trees to make gas; we need our trees for other things, too.
Besides different types of gas, we can also use electricity(电) to run our cars, but first we must make the electricity! Some countries have coal(煤) and they make electricity with that, but we might not always have coal, either. Other countries have big, strong rivers, and they can use the power of water to turn turbines(涡轮机) and make electricity more easily and cheaply.
We are also able to get power from the ocean tides. We put turbines into the mouth of the river. Then the tide comes in, the water turns the turbines and then it goes out, it turns them again.
Which of these ways will be used to run our cars in the future?
1.When might people have to go back to using horses and carriages?
A. When they are poor.
B. When they run out of oil.
C. When they need more exercise.
D. When there aren’t any big trees in the world.
2.What did some people use to make gas in the Second World War?
