Mobile phone has become a problem for high schools. Some high-school students in Australia are not allowed to carry mobile phones during school hours.
Mobile phone used among children has become a problem for the school. Several children have got mobile phones as Christmas presents, and more students will want them. Marry Brown, a headmaster, said that mobile phone was a distraction(分心事) to students during school hours and it also gave teachers so much trouble in their classrooms. Teachers were also saying that sometimes students might use phone messages to cheat during exams. She said some schools had tried to ban(禁止) mobile phones. Some parents felt unhappy because they couldn’t get in touch with their children.
Many teachers said students should not have mobile phones at school. But there was a good reason that they could leave their phones at school offices. They also said they were easily lost and were a distraction for studies.

"Depend on yourself" is what nature says to every man. Parents can help you. Teachers can help you. Others still can help you. But all these only help you to help yourself.
There have been many great men in history. But many of them were very poor in childhood, and had no uncles, aunts or friends to help them. They couldn't depend on them for education. They saw how it was, and began to work with their efforts.
One of the most famous teachers in England used to tell his pupils, "I can't make worthy men of you, but I can help you make men of yourselves."
Some young men are not the best in anything, and they are to be pitied(值得同情的). They can never do things successfully if they don't see their weak points and change their courses(做法). They are nothing now, and will be nothing as long as they live if they don't follow the advice of their parents and teachers, and depend on their own efforts.

It's over three years since I began to learn English. I am glad that I am getting on well with it.
I find English very interesting, but quite difficult. When I first started, I thought I had only to remember the new words and learn some grammar. I know little about English idioms(习语). I thought each English word had a word with the same meaning in Chinese. When I learned to say "I see a book on the desk", I thought the English word "see" was just like the Chinese word "kan". So one day when my teacher asked me, "What are you doing?" I answered, "I'm seeing a book." "That's wrong," the teacher said. "You don't see a book. You read a book. You can't use an English word like a Chinese one. Be sure not to make the same mistake again."
After that I began to pay more attention to the differences between Chinese and English. For example, in English we say a "high mountain", but a "tall man". In Chinese we use the same word "gao" for both. Again in English we say "take part in the sports meeting", "attend a meeting" and "join the army", while in Chinese we can use "can jia" for all the three. It's interesting, isn't it? So to study English doesn't only mean hard work, it can be great fun, too! We not only have to pay attention to pronunciation, grammar, spelling and handwriting, we also have to understand English idioms. We can learn English well only in that way!
But all this is only a beginning and I still have a long way to go. I'll try my best and work even harder than before. I must speak and listen to English more both in and out of class. I must read and write more, too. I must learn English well so that I can work well when I grow up.
