Li Shizhen was born in 1518. His father was a poor doctor. Li Shizhen often saw that people fell ill. He decided to study medicine and then he could help people.
Li Shizhen read many books about medicine. He found there were many mistakes in some of the old medical books. So his wish was to write a new one.
He tried to study medical science. He studied both the herbs in his own garden and the wild ones. He had long trips many times to collect herbs and talk with old working people and leaned a lot of from them.
After many years of hard work and study, Li Shizhen finished his great book “ Ben Cao Gang Mu ” . At that time he was 60. His book is now one of the greatest contributions (贡献) of the Chinese people to the medical science of the world.
