Summer Term in the School of Life will start on Friday 25 January 2015, in Collingwood, Melbourne, Australia and will become the first international school to open its doors.

To make everyday life rich, the writer Alain de Botton has worked hard at getting the best ideas and the School of Life is his brainchild(构想). Since it began in London in 2009, more than 50,000 people have taken part in its programs and its new way of life-long learning is now well-known all over the world.

Summer Term in the School of Life is a 10-week project offering a selection of the UK’s most popular programs, led by Australia’s thinkers. “We are very excited to start the School of Life in Australia. We can’t wait to start receiving our first guests(客人),” says Alain de Botton.

Summer Term will include different classes, workshops and other special events held every Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 25January and 31 March. The conversation Café onsite will serve up a daily conversation menu, light food and of course, delicious coffee.

“There has been a growing need among Australians to deal with the problems in life like love, creativity, work, money, nature and death. The School of Life Australia will provide a space for us to explore (探测) these subjects,” says Sara Tiefebtun, Project Director of the School of Life Australia.

A jobless man wanted very much to have the position of “office boy” at Microsoft. The HR manager interviewed him and then watched him cleaning the floor as a test. “You have passed the test,” he said. “Give me your e-mail address and I’ll send you the form to fill in and the date when you may start.” The man replied, “But I don’t have a computer, neither an e-mail.” “I’m sorry,” said the HR manager. “If you don’t have an e-mail, that means you are not living. And anyone who isn’t living cannot have the job.”

The man left with no hope at all. He didn’t know what to do with only $10 in his pocket. He thought and thought. Then he went to the supermarket and bought 10 kilos of tomatoes. One day, one of his friends asked him for his e-mail. He said, “I haven’t got one.” His friend couldn’t believe his ears. “Can you imagine what you could have been if you had an e-mail?” The man thought for a while and replied, “Yes, I’d be an office boy at Microsoft!”

Sports, school are tiring. But there is a great way to unwind after all of those activities. Go to north London, to the coolest part of the city---Camden. There you can find fashion trends (流行,趋向) and famous people.

Sam and I walked down Camden High Street and made our way to a bridge over Regent’s Canal. It is a 9-mile man-made river that goes through London.

We went into a big market and saw crazy signs, fun T-shirts, and things like hand-made earrings for sale. We bought Chinese fried noodles. It tasted very different from the noodles we make at home, and we ate it with a fork instead of chopsticks!

Camden is famous for the punk(朋克)style that started in the 1970s. Punks walked around with bright pink and green hair, broken clothes with safety pins, metal buttons(纽扣)and pierced ears and lips. Punk music shops played loud, heavy rock music.

But there were also groups of hippies(嬉皮士)with big sweaters. They sat in cafes drinking soymilk, with black clothes, black lipstick and painted white faces.

Besides all these “normal” people, a lot of famous people come to Camden. Actor Orlando Bloom from Pirates of the Caribbean lives there.

Camden is especially known as a home to famous musicians. Lots of top bands played here, including Coldplay, Oasis---and Sam’s favourite band, The Vaccines. I had never heard of them before---But luckily they were playing that night in Camden.

1.The passage is mainly about ________ in Camden.

A. the punks                          B. the fashion trends

C. the hippies                         D. the famous musicians

2.The underlined word “ unwind” in the first paragraph means _________.

A. stay at home                      B. go out for a walk

C. study hard                        D. have a good time

3.What did Sam and the writer do at the big market?

A. They bought some hand-made earrings .

B. They ate some Chinese fried noodles.

C. They used chopsticks instead of a fork.

D. They found some crazy signs about T-shirts

4.Which of the following is the punk style?

A. Tom wears broken clothes with metal buttons.

B. Jim has short black hair and wears a blue suit.

C. Light music is played loudly in punk music shop

D. Mary has a big sweater and paints her face white.
