What’s the most important thing for you to have in your life? Somebody mentions hard-work, others suggest knowledge, love and luck.
If you arrange(排列) the 26 English letters in order(顺序) and use numbers to represent each of them, for example, 1 for a, 2 for b, 3 for c…26 for z, you can change an English word into a number. So hard-work becomes 8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11=98, meaning 98 is its mark(分数). Knowledge: 11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5=96, love:12+15+22+5=54, and luck: 12+21+3+11=47, a small mark. None of these words can give one a full mark. What about money? It can’t , either.
Then what else? Don’t be worried. You can always find an answer to a problem in your life, when you change your way of looking at things or doing things, or your attitude(态度). Yes, attitude is the word. See for yourself: attitude:1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5=100,a full mark.
Different attitudes lead to(导致) different courses of life. Most time people hope for a better life. It is possible that they will have a better life if they change their attitudes. When you change your manner and became friendly towards others, you’ll meet more smiling faces towards you. In the same way, if you take a positive(积极的) attitude towards failure(失败), you’ll find it’s also rewarding(有益的)though it has caused you losses(损失).

What’s the strongest part of your body? Your head? Bones? It’s your teeth. There is a special thing called enamel(牙釉质)in teeth. It is the hardest thing in the human body and keeps bacteria(细菌)away. However, teeth are hurt easily to problems and disease. September 20 is National Teeth-loving Day in China. Let’s pay attention to the health of our teeth.
Teeth problems are common around the world. Most children and young adults have tooth decay(龋齿). A study which come out on China Health Monthly magazine this year showed that 40.74% of a sample(抽样)of 1,306 Chinese students under age 15 has decayed teeth.
Food that is rich in sugar increases the risk of tooth decay. After you eat, bacteria go crazy over the sugar on your teeth. The bacteria turn sugar into acids that eat away at tooth enamel. This causes holes in your teeth.
Another common problem is crooked teeth(龅牙). When your new teeth begin to grow and the old teeth haven’t fallen out, there isn’t enough space for the new ones. This causes crooked teeth.

In the United States, headmasters(校长) and teachers discipline(惩罚)students in several ways. The teacher often writes to or calls the student’s parents. Sometimes students have to stay at school for one hour. If a student behaves(行为)very badly, the headmaster can stop the student having classes. The student can’t come to school for one, two or three days. Mr.Lazares, the headmaster of a middle school in Ohio, did not like to do so. When he didn’t let the students come to school, they were happy. “A three-day holiday!” They thought.
One day, a boy was in Mr.Lazares’s office. The boy was not behaving well in class. Mr.Lazares telephoned the boy’s parents. “If you come to school with your son, I won’t stop him having classes,” he said. The boy’s father came to school and went with his son to every class. Other students looked at the boy and his father. The boy was embarrassed(难为情). After that he behaved better. And of course other students behaved better, too.
