Many of us have ever loved the two toy bears --- a brown Teddy bear and a yellow Winnie – the – Pooh bear. The two toy bears come from real stories in life.

In 1902 Theodore Roosevelt President of the USA went on hunting. The hunting dogs found an old bear in the forest near Washington D.C. and the guide asked the president to shoot it. But President Roosevelt disagreed. A cartoonist drew a cartoon showing that the president refused to shoot the bear. Soon the bear began to appear in other newspapers. Sometimes people are not clear about what kind of food is healthy and what kind of food may do harm to our health. The USDA has prepared a food guide to help people learn about which kind of food is the healthiest to eat. The food guide describes six main food groups: meat (like fish and chicken) dairy (like milk and cheese) grains (like bread and rice) fruit and vegetables. The last group is fats and sweets. The USDA also suggests how much of each food group is healthy to eat daily. Though this guide was prepared by the US government it is very useful for people all over the world.

As a result of years of study we know that too much animal fat is bad for our health. For example Americans eat a lot of meat and only a small amount of grains fruit and vegetables. Because of the way they eat they have a high rate (率) of cancer and heart disease. In Japan people eat large amounts of grains and very little meat. The Japanese also have a very low rate of cancer and heart disease. The Japanese live longer than anyone else in the world. However when Japanese people move to the US the rate of heart disease and cancer goes up as their eating habit changes. And as hamburgers ice creams and other high-fat foods become popular in Japan the rate of heart disease and cancer is going up there as well. People are also eating more meat and dairy food in other countries in which the disease rate is going up along with the change of the way people eat. Doctors everywhere suggest people eat more grains fruit and vegetables and less meat and dairy food.

Eating healthily is important for children as well as their parents. When parents have poor eating habits their children usually do too. After all children eat the same way as their parents. When parents eat healthy food the children will learn to enjoy it too. Then they will develop good eating habits. Doctors suggest parents give their children healthier food such as fruit vegetables and juice.

Everyone wants to live a long healthy life. We know that the food we eat affects us in different ways. For example doctors believe that fruit and vegetables can really protect people from many different diseases. On the other hand animal fat can cause diseases. We can change our eating habits now and enjoy many years of healthy living.

Although I had left school against the advice of my teacher I had without telling anyone tried to continue my studies in literature at evening classes. It was a tiresome walk from one end of the city to another and to sit among adults was uninteresting. I was the youngest in the class so the friendship I knew at school was absent I put up with it for a short period. It was too long a walk on cold winter’s nights and it was hard to put my heart into Shakespeare with wet shoes and trousers. So I continued reading books and started writing poetry at home.

By chance I won some prizes and rewards for literature. A young woman from a TV company came to the college one day. She wanted to make a short film about me to which I said “No I couldn’t do that.” Not that I had any real excuse I was just frightened. In the end she persuaded me that I should do it the following day.

So I did. They made a short film of me reading one of my poems and I became more interested in literature than ever. I wondered what I should do after this and decided some weeks later that I could not imagine myself spending the rest of my days dealing with machines. So one evening I hesitatingly(支吾其词地) told my parents that I wanted to return to school. They wanted to know if I was sure if I knew what it meant and whether I realized that if I gave up my job training it would be very difficult to get a good job. But nothing could stop me and they asked about the matter on future.

A. The writer’s unhappy childhood.

D. Whether it was worth leaving school for job training.
