If you knew you had only three years left to live, how would you use your time? It’s a hard question and few of us would even like to think about it. But 18-year-old Huang Ge has to answer this question and he says: “I want to thank the people who have helped me.”

At age one, Huang’s mother left the family. Six years later, he was badly ill. He has been using a wheelchair since 9 years old. Doctors said he would only live to be 18.

After Huang’s story went on TV, hundreds of Chinese sent money to help him. The boy was so moved that he decided to thank every one of them. But it is not an easy job, because Huang was too sick even to drive a mosquito (蚊子) away from his leg. Huang has to be tied to his wheelchair to stop him from falling out. And the family can only afford a three-wheeled motorcycle (三轮摩托). Since 2003, the father and son have traveled 14000 kilometers, to 10 provinces, and thanked more than 30 helpers.

“I am moved by the story of this boy. We need the courage to face death, and we should also feel the thankfulness for those who help us,” reads an online post on cctv.com.

British people are famous for drinking tea. But brother and sister, Sahar and Bobby Green, became young millionaires (百万富翁) when they opened a chain of American-style (美国风味的) coffee shops in the U.K.

Having the idea: It started when Sahar took a weekend trip to New York to visit her brother Bobby. One evening, in a Thai restaurant, Sahar told Bobby how much she wished she could buy American-style coffee in London. Bobby suggested they start their own coffee shop. Sahar fell in love with the idea.

Doing the Research: Back in London, she spent a whole day on the London subway, getting off the train at different stations to taste the coffee. “It was terrible, and I knew there was a gap in the market.” In November 1995, they opened their first Coffee Republic shop in central London.

Making it work: The first year was very difficult. There were problems finding and keeping staff, and British people were not used to the names of American coffees, like latte and macchiato. But being successful was their dream and they were not going to give up. Today, there are over 100 Coffee Republic shops all over the country and the company has revenues (收入) of £30 million a year.

Advice for others: Sahar has now written a best-selling book about their experience, called Anyone Can Do It! She hopes it will help other young people to start their own businesses. Qi Haoran, a Junior One student at High School Attached to Harbin Institute of Technology(哈尔滨工业大学附属中学), was quite busy over the past winter vacation─ not just busy with his homework. Qi, together with 10 other classmates made a volunteer group to call on people to join the Clean Your Plate Campaign (“光盘行动”).

The eleven students went to many restaurants and told people the importance of saving food. “Excuse me, do you know that 950 million people around the world still haven’t got enough to eat? Please don’t waste food.” “Nearly 100 million people only earn about 865 yuan a year in China. They even cannot afford a cup of tea.” They would say this kind of thing hundreds of times every day.

The Clean Your Plate Campaign began on the Internet in January this year. It calls on people to reduce food waste.

China in recent years has experienced serious problems with wasted food. CCTV reported in January that the food Chinese people waste every year is enough to feed 200 million people for a year.

Chinese people are well known for being hospitable (好客的) and generous. Many even feel that they lose face if their guests have eaten up all the food.

Luckily, the campaign has got the support (支持) of many people. In a restaurant in Xinjiang, the owner will give the guests who have eaten all that they ordered a sticker (贴花). People can enjoy a free meal when they have 10 stickers. More than 750 restaurants in Beijing have begun to offer smaller dishes and encourage their guests to take leftovers (剩饭剩菜) home. Cheng guangbiao, a very famous person not only wanted to rename himself Cheng guangpan, which means “Clean Your Plate”, but also took his staff to some restaurants to eat leftovers. More and more customers are willing to wrap up their leftovers to take home.
