I went to a volunteer orientation（志愿者活动情况介绍会） at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital in California several days ago.
Before I went there, I thought it was just a meeting for us to learn some basic information on how to do volunteer work. To my surprise, this meeting lasted for four hours! It told us in detail how to be a good volunteer at hospital.
For example, Graham, the director, told us to keep eye contact while offering help and never wait to be asked but offer help first. London used to be “foggy”--- the “fog” was in fact smog, a mixture of smoke and fog. In other words, it was caused by air pollution. In London, some of this pollution came from factories, but a lot of it came from the coal that people burnt in their houses to keep warm during the winter.
