Do you know Chai Jing? She is a former news hostess from CCTV. Recently, her latest documentary Under the Dome(穹顶之下)has aroused wide public attention. As we all know, smog is a big problem in many Chinese cities.
The 103-minute film was published on websites on Feb 28, 2015. In the film, Chai visits polluted places and talks to officials(官员) and scientists. She says that burning too much coal and oil is the main cause of PM2.5 and smog.
To make things worse, according to Chai, the coal and oil we are burning is of poor quality and don’t meet the standards for environmental protection, Therefore they have produced more harmful gas and particles(颗粒)to pollute the air.
To solve the problem, Chai suggests that factories should clean our coal and oil or replace them with cleaner energy.
In her film, Chai also thought that ordinary people can do something to help control smog too. For example, we can live a greener life by using more public transportation or if we see something that could harm the environment, we can try to stop it.
What can we do to help beat the smog?
*Take public transportation.
*Call the hotline 12369 for complaints about environmental problems.
*Clean the cooking area regularly to avoid extra harmful gas.
*Take a picture of any pollutant source and post it on your social media accounts.
*Add “@local environmental departments” on weibo.
*Don’t buy products made from factories that pollute the environment.
Chen Jinjing, the new minister of environmental protection, praised Chai. He said, “This film encourages us to care more about the environment. This is what we need in the future.”

I hid the long black bag in the garage(车库) for the past two days. Tonight, in the dark, I would finally take it away. If everything went OK, it would be done by morning. But I had to be sure no one, not even my wife, saw me.
It was more difficult to get away from the party than I expected. I said that the children were tired and needed to get to bed. It was partly true. But the main reason for leaving was that I wanted to finish my plan.
First I had to get the kids to sleep. That was never easy at any time and tonight it was even more difficult. The eldest one wanted to know why we left the party early. I told him 10:30 p.m. was not early. As usual, I read them a bed time story, but I had to stop myself reading too quickly or they would know my secret.
Silence finally came, and feeling like a thief in the night, I went out of the house and into the garage. Taking one end, I dragged the bag out from its hiding place and took it into the garden. I was worried that my neighbours might see me and call the police.
It was already eleven o'clock. By the light of the moon I started working, trying to make as little noise as possible. And that was not easy with a saw (锯子) and a hammer(锤子).
After much effort, my work was finally completed. I looked down at my watch. It was exactly 4:00 am. Then I went inside to have a shower and get a few hours of sleep. It wouldn't be long now before the kids would rush into my room and wake me up to tell me about the new tree-house Father Christmas brought them this year.

What will man be like in the future --- in 5,000 or even 50,000 years from now? We can only make guesses, of course, but we can be sure that he will be different from what he is today, because man is slowly changing all the time.
Let us take an example. Man, even five hundred years ago, was shorter than he is today. Now, on average(平均), men are about three inches taller. 500 years is relatively(相对地) a short period of time, so we may suppose that man will continue to grow taller.
Again, in the modern world we use our brains a great deal. Even so, we still use only about 20% of the brain's capacity(容量). As time goes on, however, we shall have to use our brains more and more, and finally we shall need our brains more and more, and finally we shall need larger ones! This is likely to bring a physical change too. The head, especially the forehead(前额), will grow larger.
Nowadays our eyes are used too much. In fact, we use them so much that very often they become weaker and we have to wear glasses. But over a long time it is possible that man's eyes will grow stronger.
On the other hand, we make use of our arms and legs less. These, as a result, are likely to grow weaker. At the same time, however, our fingers will grow more sensitive(敏感的) because they are used a lot in modern life.
But what about hair? This will probably disappear from the body because it does not serve a useful purpose any longer. In the future, then, both men and women are likely to be hairless.
Perhaps all this gives the impression that future man will not be a very attractive(有吸引力的) person to look at! This may be true. However, future man will still have a lot in common with us. He will still be a person, with thoughts and feelings similar to our own.
