阅读表达:根据短文内容回答问题

My two little daughters and I usually go out and help others on Thankful Thursday. Last Thursday we were going to buy lunch for the beggars(乞丐)in the street. Then we went to the nearest McDonald’s(麦当劳).

I ordered 15 lunches from it and drove my car to hand them out.

We gave the lunches to the beggars. they were excited. We were happy to see that.

Then we noticed a small, old woman, asking for pocket money. We gave her our last lunch bag. Before we got into the car, she started to speak to us, “No one has ever done anything like this for me before,” she said with a smile. “Well, I’m glad that we were the first,” I answered. “So, when will you eat your lunch,” I asked.

She just looked at me with her big, tired brown eyes and said, "OH, dear, I'm not going to eat this lunch. You see, I have a little girl of my own .I usually can’t buy her favorite food, but today she will be so happy! "

I don't know if the kids noticed the tears in my eyes. I have asked many times whether our Actions of Kindness were too small to change anything. Yet at that moment, I realized the truth of words: "We cannot do great things —only small things with great love."

It is well known that everyone has his own dream as well as his own future. But do you know what future really is ? I have to say that future is now. That is to say we must treasure every minute now. If we want to have a bright future, we should know how important time is and use it well.

There is an old English saying: “Gain(赢得) time, gain life.” Then what’s time? Time is something that we can’t see or touch, but we can feel it passing by. Time is always with us. When we are at table, time passes; when we play, time goes by unnoticeable. We always say “Time is money”, but time is even more precious(珍贵的)than money, because when money is spent , we can earn it back. But if time is gone away, it will never return. So, some of us even say time is priceless(无价的).

We should always remember: future is now. For us students, we should try our best to work hard in order to create a great future of our own. We should make the best use of every hour and be the master of today. We should do everything before us as well as possible. And never put off what can be done today till tomorrow.

As we all know, “Time and tide wait for no man.” If you waste today, you will regret tomorrow. So from now on, work hard. Tomorrow will be better, and your future will be brighter .Remember: “No pains, no gains.” Today’s hard work leads to (导致) tomorrow’s harvest(收获).

Autistic (患自闭症的) children may learn better from robots than from human beings, according to a study at a school in Birmingham.

Two robots like humans, Max and Ben, have been helping teach autistic children at Sutcliffe Primary School since March last year. The school is the first in the UK to try the new way.

Ian Lowe, the head teacher, said, “The robots have no feelings, so autistic children find that they are less terrible than their teachers.”

He added, “They are really cute-looking. Autistic children are hard to communicate with adults and other children, but for some reasons they like these robots.

“Some children are not able to communicate with others. But they come into school and start to communicate through the robots.”

The robots are knee-high and move like children. The school is using them to teach phonics (声学) and play cards or memory and imitation (模仿) games with children from five to ten.

Dr Guldberg said, “We do many different activities with the robots acting as a model (模特) for the children’s behavior. It is amazing to see how interested and concentrated the children can be when they are working with the robots. It can be very difficult to get autistic children to concentrate.”

He added, “If you can meet the needs of autistic children, you can meet the needs of all children. And you know, when people feel safe and interested, they learn much better.”

Some of the greatest problems we face today are the destruction (破坏) of our environment. Brown clouds, polluted water, endangered wild animals.., these problems seem so huge.

So my family does what we can. We take cloth bags to stores instead of using plastic bags. We walk where we don't have to drive...

But does it do any good? When I am the only one in line at the market with cloth bags, am I doing any good? Does my walking to stores make any real difference to the world?

I recently learned something about flamingos (火烈鸟) which like to get together in groups of a thousand or more. Every year, when the time comes for migration (迁徙), a few of them first take off from the lake. But none of the others seem to notice, so the small group returns. However, the next day they try again. This time few more fly along with them, but most of them still pay no attention, so they return again. They try for several times. Every time a few more birds join in but, since the thousands of others still take no notice, the great migration plan is once more stopped.

Then one day something changes. The same small group of birds once again starts flying and a small number more join in just as before, then more. Finally, they all take flight and the migration really begins. What a spectacular sight it must be—thousands of flamingos taking off into the sky at once!

A few can make a difference. Even if you're the one to take the first step, and continue trying, others will someday take notice and together we will solve even our greatest problems.

1.Where would you most probably read this passage?

A. A guidebook.

B. A movie poster.

C. A personal blog(博客).

D. A geology(地质) magazine.

2.What does the underlined word "spectacular" in Paragraph 5 probably mean?

A. Frustrating.      B. Surprising.

C. Terrible.       D. Fantastic.

3.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A. Even if we can walk there, we still drive over.

B. Flamingos like to get together in groups of a thousand or more.

C. Brown clouds and polluted water are the only problems we face today.

D. When a few of the flamingos first take off from the lake, all the others follow at once.

4.What's the writer's purpose of writing this article?

A. To show that the writer loves to see the migration of flamingos.

B. To tell readers to continue trying and it can make a difference.

C. To introduce a special kind of flamingo to readers.

D. To show that there're many problems in the world.
