Cut out meat, lose weight. And, while you're at it, protect your heart, keep away from cancer and live longer.

According to research published by the Academy, vegetarians (素食)have lower body mass indexes(质量指数) than meat-eaters, overweight and fat people who followed a vegetarian diet lost more weight than those who ate meat -- even though both groups used up the same number of calories.

But losing weight and being healthier isn't about simply about eliminating meat, it's about how you replace that meat.

Perhaps those vegetarians fell for these oh-too-common eating mistakes. Here are some tips you need to notice.

●French bread, chips and pretzels are all vegetarian. But no one's saying they're healthy foods. They are packed with calories and sugar.

●If you're doing vegetarian eating, there's no reason to get less protein than you need. For example, they ate 450 fewer calories a day and lost about 11 pounds in 12 weeks.

●A lot of vegetarians -- especially new ones -- worry about skimping on protein. Eat more cheese. Remember, 1 ounce of cheese contains an average of 100 calories and 7 grams of fat.

●"While plant-based smoothies(果昔) can be a healthy choice for enjoying fruits, vegetables and protein. They can add an important calorie load, especially if they are store-bought," Sheth says.

What happens when five Chinese teachers take over a British classroom full of teenagers? The experimental program was designed to test how 50 students ages 13 and 14 at the Bohunt School in Hampshire would deal with a completely Chinese teaching method. With long school days and tough rules, it’s considered to be "strict" to Westerners.

It took the BBC six months to choose suitable Chinese teachers. They had to be English, math, science or social science teachers with more than five years teaching experience in China. They also had to be able to teach in English. Though language was not a problem for the Chinese teachers, they weren't used to the difference between Chinese and British students. Li Aiyun from the Nanjing Foreign Language School told British media that when she handed out homework sheets, she expected the students to concentrate on their homework. "But when I walked in the classroom, some students were chatting, some students were eating, somebody was even putting make-up on her face. I had to control myself, or I would be crazy. About half of them tried their best to follow me. And the other half ? Who knows what they were doing?" she said.

While Rosie Lunskey, 15, told BBC interviewers that she found it difficult to get used to the Chinese teachers. "Acting like robots was the right way to go. I'm used to speaking my mind in class, giving ideas, often working in groups to develop my skills and improve my knowledge. But a lot of the time in the experiment, the only thing I felt I was learning was how to copy notes really fast and listen to the teacher, "she complained.

Think back to a time in your life when you tried something new.

When I was a teenager I volunteered to pass out water at a local race. I was so excited to see all the different runners who passed by and quickly took a cup of water. Some ran past, some walked past and a few wheeled past.

I saw so many types of people doing it. I thought maybe I could do it too! The next year I decided to run for the race, but I had little running practice. I just wanted to finish. On the day of the race, it was terribly hot. After running for about 5 miles, I was thinking, “I must be crazy. Why did I do this? What was I thinking?” And at one moment, I said to myself, “I am never doing this again!”

That first 10 km race was quite an experience. I jogged, I walked, I jogged and walked. At times, I didn’t know if I could finish.

Near the end, a 70-year-old man ran past me, very fast, and I felt a little embarrassed (尴尬的) that I was more than 50 years younger than he and I couldn’t even keep up with him. But then I realized something. He was running his race and I was running mine. How often in life do we compare(比较) ourselves to others when we really shouldn’t?
