One of the most famous scientists to study adaptations (适应) was Charles Darwin. He was born in England in 1809. He wasn’t the best student in his school, but when he was 16, his father sent him to a medical school. Charles liked spending time outdoors observing nature more than attending medical classes. He dropped out without graduating.

Next, Charles’s father sent him to school to become a minister (牧师). This time he made it to graduation. But he didn’t want to do the work of a minister. His friends encouraged him to follow his interest in science.

After graduation, Charles was invited to sail on the Beagle as an unpaid scientist. He wasn’t the first choice, but he was the lucky one to go. The Beagle was to travel to South America and then around the world. The crew's task was to make maps of the places they visited.

On December 27th, 1831, Charles Darwin sailed from England on the Beagle. The trip was planned to last two years. In fact, it lasted five. During this time, he saw many amazing things. He collected lots of plants and animals and took them back to England to study.

Twenty-three years later, Darwin published an important scientific paper with another man named Wallace. Darwin described how some animals have adaptations that help them survive. They are passed on to offspring (后代). Darwin’s ideas about adaptations are still very important to the study of living things.

阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题。

We parents like to make sure that our children are eating well and getting all the nutrients(营养)they need. Children need two or three kinds of vegetables every day.

A simple way to get children to eat vegetables is eating them ourselves. Following our habit, they may start eating vegetables. Don’t say things like, “If you eat your vegetables, you can have desserts(餐后甜食).” These methods work for a while but can possibly lead them to disliking vegetables more. Giving your children new varieties(多样性) which will help her or him develop a taste for trying new things.

Sometimes the simple things just don’t work. We have to start becoming a little creative when it comes to make our children eat these vegetables. By doing this in the beginning when they are small, it will hopefully help them learn to love vegetables.

Think of creative ways to make children eat vegetables. For example, cut up vegetables like carrots, tomatoes, and assemble (集合) a creative way on a plate for an afternoon snack. Or try using cheese sauce either by dipping()vegetables or by putting the cheese right on top of the uncooked vegetables.

If you prefer, you can also add a teaspoon of sugar on top of cooked green beans and peas to give them a little sweeter taste. Doing this shouldn’t lead to a sweet tooth as long as you only give them a small amount.

If you have a child that refuses to eat vegetables, some of these suggestions I’ve listed will help to turn that around. In the end, you’re not just getting them to eat vegetables; you are helping them to live a healthier lifestyle.

1.How many kinds of vegetables does a child need every day?

2.What is a simple way to let the children eat vegetables?

3.What’s the advantage of thinking of creative ways when it comes to make children eat vegetables?

4.Which will children usually prefer, vegetables or desserts?

5.What is this article mainly talking about?

Youth, friendship and love are the main themes of these years’ Chinese movies, such as So Young (《致青春》) and American Dreams in China (《中国合伙人》). Tiny Times (《小时代》), one of the most popular movies in 2013, also has the same features(特征).

The movie was based on writer and director Guo Jingming’s novel of the same name. It tells a story about four girls who come from different backgrounds and of different personalities.

Since its release(发行) on June 27, Tiny Times has made 483 million yuan at the box office. The sequel (续集) of it was released on Aug 8 and it has also been a big box office hit.

However, not everyone has had good things to say. The People’s Daily said that the film went too far in encouraging youths to become materialistic (物质至上主义的).

Song Kexin, 14, a high school student at Zhida Middle School in Taiyuan, Shanxi, shows a typical example of a fan’s attitude. And that’s to look for the positive(积极的) value. “The movie is a little far from our daily life. My friends and I are not having parties every day,” Song said. “But I admire Tang Wanru’s optimistic attitude(乐观主义态度). She’s always looking at the bright side of life. I should learn from her.”
