任务型阅读 先通读下面的短文,然后根据短文内容和表格,在空格内填入一个适当的单词,使意思完整.

Learning can take place in a classroom, in a meeting room, or even on a ship. Life experiences offer the students some of the best education on the earth. Of those life experiences, travel offers the best returns(回报).

For international travelers, the lessons are the greatest. Taking that first step to cross the ocean by plane or boat is a risk. It teaches people to see more and people can go beyond one land, one country, and one set way of thinking and doing things.

International travel opens up the mind with different cultures. Travelers see how different people do things in different lands. While this experience is exciting for adults, children get the greatest insights(洞察力) during the international exploration. It will help to form their understanding from a very young age. It will help them understand that differences among people and cultures can be quite exciting and wonderful in its own way. Fashion, art, science, transportation, religion(宗教), geography, geology(地质学) and social studies are all areas of learning outside of the books when traveling abroad. There is no other way that can teach so much information in such a short time.

You can learn more from travel than from any other educational experience. If you take no notice of everything you see, then surely you will learn nothing at all. But, if you are curious enough to look for new experiences through travel, you can learn more from travel than from any course in any university on the earth!

A teacher in New York decided to honor(纪念) each of her students in high school by telling them the difference they each made. First she told them how the student made a difference to her and the class. Then she presented each of them with a blue ribbon(带子) with gold letters which read, “Who I Am Makes a Difference.”

Afterwards the teacher told the students to do a class project to see what kind of effect would have on a community. She gave each of the students three more ribbons and showed them to go out and do as she did.

One of the boys in the class went to a junior manager and honored him for helping him with his career planning. He gave him a blue ribbon and put it on his shirt. Then he gave him two extra ribbons, and told him what it was all about.

Later that day the junior manager went in to see his boss, who had been said as being a bad-tempered (坏脾气)man. He sat his boss down and told him that he deeply admired him for being a creative person. The boss seemed very surprised. The junior manager asked him if he would accept the gift of the blue ribbon and allow him to put it on him. His surprised boss said, “Well, sure.” Then he gave him the last extra ribbon, and repeated what the boy had told him.

That night the boss came home to his 14-year-old son and sat him down. He said, “I was in my office when one of the junior managers came in and told me he admired me and gave me a blue ribbon for being a creative person. Then he put this blue ribbon that says ‘Who I Am Makes A Difference’ on my jacket. He gave me an extra ribbon and asked me to find somebody else to honor. I started thinking about whom I would honor with this ribbon and I thought about you. I just let you know that you do make a difference to me. You’re a great kid and I love you!”

The surprised boy couldn’t stop crying. He looked up at his father and said through his tears, “I was planning on killing myself tomorrow, Dad, because I didn’t think you loved me. Now I don’t need to.”

Are you shy? If you are, you are not alone. In fact, close to 50 percent of people are shy. Almost 80 percent of people feel shy at some point in their lives. These days, shyness is becoming more and more common. Now, scientists are trying to understand shyness. They have some interesting ideas about why people are shy.

Is it possible to be born shy? Many scientists say yes. They say 15 to 20 percent of babies behave shyly. These babies are a little quieter and more watchful than other babies. Interestingly, these shy babies usually have shy parents. As a result, scientists think that some shyness is genetic.

Family size might cause people to be shy as well. Scientists at Harvard University studied shy children. They found that 66 percent of them had older brothers and sisters. As a result, they became shy. At the same time, children with no brothers and sisters may be shy as well. Growing up alone, they often play by themselves. They are not able to learn the same social skills as children from big families.

You may also be shy because of where you were born. When scientists studied shyness in different countries, they found surprising differences. In Japan, most people said they were shy. But in Israel, only one of three people said so. What explains the difference? One scientist says the Japanese and Israelis have different opinions(看法) of failure(失败). In Japan, when people do not succeed, they feel bad about themselves. They blame(责备)themselves for their failure. In Israel, the opposite is true. Israelis often blame failure on outside reasons, such as family, teachers, friends, or bad luck. In Israel, freedom of opinion and risk taking are strongly supported. This may be why Israelis worry less about failure and are less shy.

For shy people, it can be difficult to make friends, speak in class, and even get a good job. But scientists say you can get over your shyness. They suggest trying new things and practicing conversation. And don’t forget---if you are shy, you are not the only one.

1.What does the underlined word “genetic” in paragraph 2 probably mean?

A. Passed down from parents.

C. Taught by teachers.

D. Made up by brothers.

2.We can learn from the passage that _______ may cause shyness.

A. genetics, grown--ups and birthplace

B. genetics, family size and birthplace

C. family size, grown--ups and failure

D. genetics, family size and freedom

3.Which of the following shows the structure(结构)of the passage? (P=Paragraph)
