one possible version: Do You Like to Have Tests in the Man-machine Conversation? Several days ago, we did a survey about whether you like to take your spoken English tests in the man-machine conversation. Here are the results. 85% students like to have their spoken English tests in the man-machine conversation. They think that spoken English is as important as written English, so it is necessary to be tested as written English. Also, having such tests can make students pay more attention to their spoken English. What’s more, teachers will let them speak English more in class. However, 15% students don’t like to have such tests. Because of their poor spoken English, they are afraid they aren’t able to answer all the questions correctly. And they are also afraid that the computers may break down suddenly in the test. I like such kind of test. I think having good spoken English is very important in some ways. And the tests can push me to practice speaking English as often as I can. 【解析】这是一篇给材料作文,介绍我校就“你喜不喜欢用人机对话的形式来检验你的英语口语?”进行调查的结果,以及自己的观点。结合所给材料,可知本文主要考查一般现在时态,人称为第一,三人称,注意主谓一致问题,句子结构主要为系表结构和动宾结构,注意一些常见句式的应用,比如:we did a survey about whether……;85% students like to……;They think that……;they are afraid…….;I think…… 此处like to do sth, pay attention to, what’s more, because of, break down, push sb to do sth等这些词组的运用也让文章增色不少。

In 1883, an engineer named John Roebling got an idea to build a bridge between New York and Long Island. However, bridge-building experts around the world thought that it was impossible. It had never been done before.

After much discussion, he made his son Washington, a great engineer, believe that the bridge could be built.

The project started well, but a few months later, an accident took the life of John Roebling. Washington was badly hurt and he was not able to walk or talk. However, Washington never lost his heart. He still wanted to complete the bridge. But all he could do was to move one finger. So he decided to make the best use of it. By moving his finger, he slowly developed a way of communicating with his wife.

He touched his wife’s arm with his finger, “telling” her that he wanted her to call the engineers again. Then he used the same way to tell the engineers what to do. The project carried on again.

For 13 years, Washington tapped out (敲出) his instructions with his finger on his wife’s arm, until the bridge was finally completed.

Today the Brooklyn Bridge stands as a monument(纪念碑) to one man’s unbeatable spirit.

It is also a monument to engineers and their teamwork, and to their faith in a man who was considered crazy by half the world.
