At sixteen, Darwin was sent to Edinburgh University (爱丁堡大学) to become a doctor. But he was interested in the history of nature.
Then he was sent to study in Cambridge University (剑桥大学). There he studied until 1831.
Some time later he heard that the ship Beagle was going on a trip to South America and wanted a scientist.
His teacher advised him to go. So when the Beagle left England in December,1831, Darwin was on it.
The trip lasted almost five years. Darwin saw many new plants and animals. He collected all kinds of plants.
In 1842, Darwin went to live in Kent, and there he continued his studies of change in nature. Darwin understood that plants and animals are not always the same, and that they really change.

Do you often travel? Do you often stay in a hotel? Most Chinese hotels often provide guests with disposable (一次性的)things, like toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo and slippers.1.. But, if you travel to Beijing, remember to bring your own things. Starting from June, some hotels in Beijing will no longer provide guests with these disposables.2..
Many disposable things are made of plastic.3..It is a waste of natural resources(资源) and is very bad for the environment. Do you know, one Chinese person makes as much as 400 kg of waste a year! Most of that waste comes from disposable things. In Beijing, people throw away about 19,000 tons of plastic bags and 2,320 tons of plastic lunch bowls every year!4.. So the less plastic we throw out, the better. So, wherever you travel, bring your own things and use them again and again.
Back at home and school, you can also do something to make our world a better place.5.: Use cloth shopping bags, not plastic ones. After using a plastic bag, wash it out and let it dry. Then you can use it over and over again. Do not use paper cups. At your school dining-room, use your own bowl and chopsticks instead of disposable ones.
To protect our environment and our home, it is very necessary and important for us to save natural resources.
