Boys and girls. Good afternoon .Today let’s talk about getting on-line.
Sue and Jim were neighbours for five years but they were never interested in each other. Then one day, Sue saw Jim’s music collection. She noticed a rare punk rock CD that she also owned. At that moment, she realized that they both had the same interest in music and they started talking. Sue said, “I thought we had nothing in common until I saw his CD by the New York Dolls.” They are now married and living with each other.
Some psychologists (心理学家) think that your taste in music is related to (有联系的) your personality. As part of a test at the University of Texas, Austin, USA, volunteers created a CD of their favourite songs. The volunteers then listened to each other’s CDs and made guesses about the CD creator’s personality—outgoing, adventurous, happy, and so on. These strangers correctly guessed much more about each others’ personalities through their CDs than through their clothes or taste in films. For example, Sue and Jim love punk music, which means they have outgoing personalities.
The psychologists who did the test found Snoop Dogg (hip-hop) fans are likely to be energetic and talkative. People who like U2 (rock/pop music) are generally independent and adventurous.
The psychologists also found that Louis Armstrong(jazz) fans tend to(倾向于) be shy. The psychologists were surprised to find that heavy metal fans were also shier and quieter than many other music lovers.

As we know, museums are buildings with many precious and important objects(物品) from different places. They are kept so that people can go and see them. For example, art museums are places where people can learn about d1. cultures. More and more popular "design museums" are opening today, h2., play quite a different role. Unlike most art museums, the design museum shows objects that are e3. found in our daily life, such as fridges and washing machines. The a4. of design museums is that they are places where people feel familiar with the exhibits. Being different from the art museum visitors, design museum visitors s5. feel frightened or puzzled. This is partly because design museums clearly show how and why mass-products(批量产品) work and look as they do, and how design has i6.our lives. People can see the better changes of the products. Art museum exhibits, on the o7. hand, would most probably fill visitors with a feeling that there is something they don't understand.
Several new design museums have opened their doors in recent years. Each of these museums has tried to satisfy the public's growing interest in the field with new i8.. London's Design Museum, for e9., shows a collection of mass-produced objects from electric typewriters to a group of Italian fish-tins. The choices open to design museums seem far less s10.than those to art museum. Visitors may also sense the humorous part of our society while walking around such exhibits as interesting and unusually attractive toys collected from our everyday life.

Although people everywhere seem to enjoy drinking coffee, they don't all have the same coffee culture. In Europe for example, coffee shops are common places for people to meet friends and to talk while they drink coffee. On the other hand, places like this were not as common in North America in the past.Instead, people in North America liked to drink coffee in their homes with friends. The coffee culture in the USA changed when Starbucks(星巴克) coffee shops spread across the country.
The first Starbucks coffee shop opened in 1971in downtown Seattle,Washington,in the USA.It was a small coffee shop that cooked its own coffee beans. The coffee shop's business did well, and by 1981there were three Starbucks stores in Seattle.
Things really began to change for the company in 1981.That year,Howard Schultz met the three men who ran Starbucks.Schultz worked in New York for a company that made kitchen equipment. He noticed that Starbucks ordered a large number of special coffee makers, which caused his great interest.Schultz went to Seattle to see what Starbucks did.In 1982,the original Starbucks owners hired Schultz as the company's head of marketing(市场营销).
In 1983,Schultz traveled to Italy. The special environment of the espresso (浓咖啡) bars there caught his eyes.Back in the USA,Schultz created an environment for Starbucks coffee shops that was comfortable and casual, and customers everywhere seemed to like it.Starbucks began opening more stores across the USA.Then the company opened coffee shops in other countries as well.Today, there are more than 16,000Starbucks coffee shops all over the world.
However, that does not mean Starbucks has not had problems. In fact, many Starbucks stores have closed over the past few years. On the hand, this is because there were too many coffee shops competing for business in one small area.On the other hand, stores in some countries closed because the coffee culture there did not match with the feel the same everywhere environment offered by Starbucks.
