Some people believe that intelligence (智力) decides a student’s success. But there is no research to support this opinion, and in fact, it is wrong. Students’ success or failure is finally decided by one simple thing: the ways of they’re learning. Some students are lucky when they find ways that are helpful for them to study. But not all students are so lucky. Some students still learn in ways that are not scientific.
Dr. James J. Asher showed a method called “Total Physical Response (反应)” as a way to teach languages. Studies at San Jose State University showed that students who moved their bodies while learning English learned more words and grammar in a short time. Those who sat still and didn’t move learned less. After a year, the students who learned by moving their bodies still remembered 80% or more of what they had learned, while the others forgot over 80%.
So you should make sure that you keep moving when you learn English. As you listen to a story or an article, do the action. For example, if you hear the word “go”, move your feet. Imagine you are acting out the story or article that you are listening to. By doing this, you will be able to learn more English, remember it for longer and use it more easily.

As school kids, we might have many dreams. These dreams can be very big, such as winning the Nobel Prize. Or they can be small. You may just want to become one of the ten best students in your class.
Once you have found a dream, what do you do with it? Have you ever tried to make your dream come true?
Follow Your Heart by Australian writer Andrew Matthews tells us that realizing our dreams is life’s biggest challenge, you may think you’re not very good at some school subjects, or that it is impossible for you to become a writer. These kinds of thoughts stop you from getting your dream, the book says. In fact, everyone can realize their dreams. The first thing you must do is to remember what your dream is. Don’t let it leave your heart. Keep telling yourself what you want and you will realize your dream faster. Do this step by step. A dream can’t be realized in one day. A big dream is, in fact, many small dreams. You should never give up your dream easily.
There must be difficulties on the road to realize it. But the biggest difficulty comes from yourself. You need to decide what is the most important. Studying instead of watching TV will lead to better exam results, while saving five yuan instead of buying an ice-cream means you can buy a new book. Make escape (逃脱) plans. They should know all the ways out of the house. If there is a fire, everyone follows the plan to get out. Part of the plan is to check all the windows to make sure they can be opened easily.
Buy fire extinguishers (灭火器) in the house. Everyone in the family should know how to use them.
Practice for a fire. They do fire practice because they teach children about fire safety. Everyone in the family should know the following fire rules:
*Don’t open a hot door! The fire can grow more quickly if you open the door.
*Stay close to the floor! Smoke can be more dangerous than fire; the best air is near the floor because smoke rises.
*What will you do if you hair or clothes start to burn? First, stop! Don’t run! The fire burns faster because of more air. Drop! Fall to the floor. They roll! Turning over and over will make the fire go out. Put a blanket (毯子) around you to keep air away from the fire that may still be on you.
