Once there was a man named Clarke. He lived alone and owned a small shop in town. He was very kind-hearted and was always ready to help people in trouble. He often gave away what he had to the poor, so, as a result, he was quite poor himself.

In order to help the poor, he learned medicine by himself and tried to help treat the sick people. So the thankful people called him Doctor Clarke even though he wasn’t a real doctor at all.

One day a poor woman asked Doctor Clarke to go and see her husband, who was very ill and felt terribly weak. Doctor Clarke went there and found the family was very poor. The husband couldn’t find a job for a long time and the wife could hardly make any money, either. Doctor Clarke looked him over carefully and to his surprise, the husband was not ill. Instead, he was hungry because there was no food in the house.

“Come over to my house this evening and I will give you some medicine for your husband” Doctor Clarke said to the woman.

When the woman got to his house in the evening, Clarke gave her a paper bag with something inside and said, “Here is the medicine and it will be good for your husband. Don’t open it until you get home.

“What are the instructions for taking it?” the woman asked.

“You will find them inside the bag.” answered Clarke.

Today, an increasing number of people are always looking at their mobile phones with their heads down. These people are called the “Heads-down Tribe(低头族)”. Are you a heads-down tribe member? Heads-down tribe members now can be seen everywhere.

More and more traffic accidents are happening because drivers use mobile phones when they are driving. In order to make drivers pay more attention to driving, some new traffic rules have been made. For example, heads-down tribe members who use mobile phones while driving will be fined ¥200.

As we can see above, using mobile phones may cause accidents and even cost money. Besides, more and more interesting things happen to the “Heads-down Tribe”. According to a piece of interesting TV news, a man in America kept using his mobile phone on his way home. Suddenly, he bumped(撞上) into a big lost bear. When he lifted his eyes from the phone, he was so scared that he ran away as quickly as possible.

Another fact is that we can often see people in the restaurant eating face to face but looking at their own mobile phones. It’s strange that they don’t talk to the ones who sit opposite to them during the meal. Some of them even have fun communicating with others on the phone all the time.

Mobile phones are helpful and necessary tools for modern life. Are mobile phones good or bad? It depends on how people use them. Let’s be “healthy” users and try not to be the “Heads-up Tribe”.

Born as the only child in the family, I am the “king” of the family. My parents are both businessmen and they come home every two weeks. Because they don't spend much time with me,they always feel guilty (内疚的) and will buy me many expensive things and let me do whatever I want. My grandparents never let me do any chores because they want me to do my schoolwork.

I used to take everything for granted (理所当然) and I never said “thank you” to people. As time went by,I found that my classmates didn't like me and my best friends left me. One day,I asked Leo, who used to be one of my best friends. He said that I was mean (自私的),rude and bad-tempered (坏脾气).“No one wants to make friends with a person who always receives but never gives anything!”he said. I was shocked at his words. “Oh,no! Please don't leave. I need friends! I will be lonely and unhappy without friends!” I locked myself up in the room and cried. “I want my friends back. But how?”

Then I noticed that all the popular kids in the class are friendly to others. They always smile and say “thank you” to others. They do whatever they can to help when others are in trouble. Other kids like them and always play with them. “I need to change! I will get my friends back,” I said to myself. From then on,I started to change myself. I learned to say “thank you” to others,I smiled and volunteered to help other kids. I tried to be as nice as I could. Gradually, I found that other kids liked to talk with me and they would ask me to play with them and even told me their secrets. My friends came back to me again.

Now I have more friends than I used to have and I am happier than I used to be.
