Many things can be shared these days, such as bikes, cars and chargers(充电宝). A “sharing bookstore” also came out last year.

Sanxiaokou Xinhua Bookstore, the world’s first sharing bookstore, opened on July 16 in Hefei, Anhui province, according to China News. It sells books as normal bookstores. But at the same time, it allows readers to take books home for free to read after paying a 99 yuan deposit(押金). They can borrow two books in 10 days by scanning a QR code(扫描二维码) on the book.

The bookstore is quite popular among the cily’s readers. By Aug 26, more than 100,000 books had been borrowed. The number of visitors to the bookstores has also grown by 50 percent. The bookstore is going to open nine more stores in other places of the city.

But some people question that these sharing bookstores are just like a library.

“Although the two both rent books, sharing bookstores have more kinds of books," Xu Xinwei, the store’s deputy manager(副店长)told China News. “We also renew(更新) our book selection more often than libraries.”

Most of us in China are used to paying for almost everything with our phones. But for foreign visitors who aren’t familiar with this method, it may seem strange.

Lim May, a girl who comes from Singapore studies in Shanghai, said once she was waiting in line to buy breakfast in Shanghai and saw other customers show their phones and take the food without giving over any cash or using bank cards. Soon after, she realized that the customers were using WeChat Pay(微信支付). She was even more surprised to find that this kind of payment has spread to almost every part of Chinese people’s daily life now.

Lim pointed out that Singapore falls behind in mobile payments. “When visitors from China find that they have to use cash here, they ask, ‘How can Singapore be so backward?’ ” Lim said.

The popularity of mobile payments in China has made several foreign companies to accept them. Many countries now accept mobile payment services for Chinese tourists, with WeChat Pay covered in 13 foreign countries and areas and Alipay(支付宝) over 200.

While mobile payments are now a normal part of life in China, it’s not so common in other countries even in the US. It’s reported that in 2016, Chinese mobile payments were nearly 50 times greater than those in the US last year.

This may be partly because Western mobile payment services need businesses to install(安装) expensive equipment(设备)before customers can use them. While in China, all it takes is a QR code(二维码) and a smart phone.

Thomas Edison was a great American inventor. When he was 7 years old, his mother had an appendectomy(阑尾手术). But it was too dark. So Edison put mirrors near oil lamps to light up the room.

The story is in a Chinese textbook for primary school students by People’s Education Press. But the publisher recently said it will remove(去除) the story. That’s because many people think it’s not true. Many believe that the world’s first appendectomy was in 1886. But when Edison’s mother had the so-called appendectomy, it was 1854.

The publisher also said it will avoid using some other fake(假的) stories. For example, there’s a story about the first US President George Washington. The story says young Washington cut down a cherry tree in the yard of his house. But in fact, there was no cherry tree in the area at that time.

So what’s the problem? Experts say that some editors care too much about the educational meaning of a story and fail to check first if the story is true.

The publisher says, in the future, they will pay greater attention to the truth of the stories in the textbook. “We will invite experts to check our stories,” it said in a statement.

1.The information about Tomas Edison is true EXCEPT ________.

A.He was from America. B.He was great.

C.He was a president. D.He was an inventor.

2.Tomas Edison born in ________.

A.1861 B.1847 C.1886 D.1854

3.Why will publisher remove these two stories?

A.Because they are not interesting.

B.Because they happened a long time ago.

C.Because they are true.

D.Because they are not true.

4.Which of the following is NOT TRUE according to the passage?

A.People didn’t have appendectomy until 1886.

B.Thomas Edison was very smart when he was 7.

C.Young Washington couldn’t cut down a cherry tree in his yard.

D.Thomas Edison didn’t put up mirrors near oil lamps to light up the room.

5.What is the main idea of the story?

A.Expert will be invited to check the stories before they are put into use.

B.Some editors care about the educational meaning as well as the truth of the stories.

C.Even educational stories will be cut off Chinese textbooks if they fail to be true.

D.Students should learn from the great men’s stories because they have educational meaning.
