A young man named Fan Xiliang didn't want to get captured. 2. He had nowhere to go and didn't know where to hide. When he heard the soldiers coming towards him, he was terrified.

What do you do if you are in trouble on a lonely island? Surely you need to find a way to get in touch with the outside world. Your best chance of doing this is to draw the attention of a passing plane.
Body signals
Pilots from different countries understand body signals if they have the correct training. When you wave your arms up and down in a straight line, it means “yes”. When you point downwards and swing your arm from side to side, it means “no”. If you want the pilot to know that it's safe to land, push your hands in front of you and bend your knees. If you want to say it's not safe to land, put your arms in the air and move them to one side.
Smoke signals
The smoke from a fire can be seen from far away, so it's a good way to draw attention. If the weather is dry, it isn't hard to start a fire. Remember, however, the fires can be very dangerous if they get out of control. Never light a fire unless you are sure that it can't spread. If the ground is dark, light smoke can be seen more easily. Green grass and leaves produce light smoke.
Ground-to-air signals
It's a good idea to build some signals, too. Use large pieces of wood to make the symbols. If you can't find any wood, use earth. Some useful symbols are:
F“I need food and water.”
II“I need medicine.”
I“I am badly hurt.”
X“I am unable to move from here.”
Pilots' replies
If the pilot lowers the plane's wings from side to side, this means “message received and understood”. (At night, the pilot flashes the plane's green lights.) If the pilot flies the plane in a clockwise (顺时针方向的) circle, this means “message received but not understood”. (At night, the pilot flashes the plane's red lights.)
However, there is no signal which means “message not received”.

Anger and sadness are important in life. New research shows that experiencing and accepting such feelings is good.
Positive (积极的) thoughts and feelings are, of course, good for our health. But unpleasant feelings are just as important as the enjoyable ones in helping us understand life's ups and downs. Negative (消极的) feelings are important because they can tell us that we may have a health problem, or we need to pay attention to other important matters such as friendship.
Instead of avoiding negative feelings, we should accept them. Many people find it helpful to breathe slowly and deeply while learning to accept negative feelings or imagine the feelings as clouds to remind them that they will pass.
If the feelings are very strong, you may want to express how you feel in a diary or to other persons. You may want to tell the friend that her words hurt you or take steps to leave the job that makes you unhappy.
You should pay attention to your breathing and simply acknowledge (承认) any bad thoughts or feelings. This may make it easier to accept unpleasant thoughts.
It is impossible to avoid negative feelings fully, because to live is to experience losing and pain. Therefore, learning how to deal with those feelings is very important.

B.Some people will only experience losing and pain in their lives.
C.We can avoid bad feelings because we can choose to forget them.
D.Everyone will experience anger and sadness during his lifetime.
Sydney Fredette has a lot things to deal with. Not only is she a high school student, but she has also set up her own organization, Beary Merry Christmas. She volunteers to serve poor kids and families in Orange County (县) in California, US.
To remember her best friend who died of cancer nearly 10 years ago, Fredette decided to serve those in Orange County who are less lucky than she is.
She began with the simple idea of collecting donated (捐赠的) Build-A-Bears, the popular toy animal that is made by children themselves in the stores' workshops. Fredette then gave them as gifts to the homeless children in California during the holiday season.
With donations at more than 100 bears a year, Fredette and volunteers host activities every year, where volunteers give out not only the bears, but also clothing, meals and other things.
Not wanting to limit (限制) the giving to just the holiday months, Fredette now hosts other activities for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Halloween, providing the chance for her volunteer team to make a difference through the year.
“I love building relationships with the people I serve,” Fredette said. “The thanks they have, hearing their stories and seeing how happy they are, it's so cool.”
Future plans for Fredette include building a public food bank and providing a self-development class for students in her school who will soon attend college.
Heading to college herself in the autumn, Fredette is looking to stay local and continue to help out in her county. In fact, she was regarded as a “Dreamer & Doer” not long ago for her work in improving her community, along with 32 other high school students.
