Egg sculpturing(蛋雕) brings extra life to students who cannot speak or hear at Changchun University. At the egg carving workshop in the university, the sound of polishing egg shells and tools knocking against each other is the only thing visitors can hear. The everyday egg shells become art pieces under the creative skills of these students.
Jin Zhanrong, director of the visual communication department(视觉传送设计系) of the school, brought in the egg sculpture major(专业) three years ago. He said that most students here in the special education school live a silent life. This makes it easier for them to forget the outside world and concentrate(专注) on egg carving.
“Egg shells are very thin and easy to break," Jin explained. "In the beginning, only one unbroken work could be completed after dozens of failed shells. That made these students pretty upset. Many students have made beautiful pieces after months of practice. Jin has also been surprised by their works.
