It is often said that the best way to get to the bottom of a hard problem is to sleep on it. Does this make sense? A new study shows that it does.
A team of researchers at Northwestern University, US, found that sleeping is useful in both strengthening(增强) and reorganizing(重组)memory. 1.
The researchers did an experiment on 57 university students. They asked students to solve 42 difficult puzzles (谜题) on the first day.2. The researchers encouraged students to remember the music they heard while solving the puzzles. By the end, there were six puzzles that the students still hadn't solved.
3. They were given special sleep-monitoring(睡眠监测)and music devices(设备). The devices played music linked with the unsolved puzzles while the students were in the slow-wave(慢波) sleep stage (阶段). This stage is when people are likely to dream and reorganize their memories.
The next morning, the students tried the unsolved puzzles again.4. The music activated(激活) the memories they had of the puzzles while they were sleeping. It allowed them to "work” on the puzzles in their sleep.
Former studies of both people and animals have shown that sleep can not only strengthen memory, but also help us organize and send information.5. So the next time you face a difficult problem, sleep on it. Play some music to remind yourself of the problem.
A.Researchers found they were 55 percent more likely to solve them.
B.This can help you solve problems.
C.This study is more evidence(证据)of these findings.
D.The students then went back home to sleep.
E.Students worked on each puzzle while listening to different music.
Do you think robots could pass an eighth-grade test? Guess what—they can.
The artificial intelligence (AI) system Aristo recently passed the same eighth-grade science test that some US students take. The New York Times reported. Aristo correctly(正确地) answered 90 percent of the questions on the test.
This is an example of the progress that is being made in AI development. Four years ago, 700 computer scientists tried to develop AI systems that could pass these kinds of exams. None scored higher than 60 percent.
Scientists at the Allen Institute in the US developed the system. Aristo was able to pass the exam because it can not only understand language, but also use logical thinking(逻辑思维)to solve difficult problems. For example, it can understand what a forest fire is and how it could affect(影响) animals.
The system used BERT, a kind of neural(神经的) network technology developed by Google, to answer the questions. BERT has "read" thousands of articles and can understand English. If it looks at a sentence with a missing word, it can correctly guess what the word is. With BERT's help, Aristo "read" many multiple-choice(多选的) questions. Over time, it was able to find logical patterns(逻辑模式).
Aristo’s success means that we might see new AI-based products(人工智能产品), such as search engines(搜索引擎) and databases(数据库) for hospitals. AI systems might be able to better understand users in the future.

A.By using BERT. B.By asking Google for help.
C.By working with scientists. D.By copying the students' answers.
4.Paragraph 5 is written to________.
A.explain how Aristo worked B.show what else Aristo can do
C.show how Aristo was created D.describe another AI breakthrough
5.From the story, we can learn that________.
A.AI-based products are not useful B.AI systems might be used in many fields
C.robots can't think logically D.Aristo will be used to help teach students
Do you want to do well in exams? Sometimes your knowledge is not enough, you also need good strategies. Here are some for you:
Before you answer the questions, if you feel a little nervous, take a few deep breaths to help you relax.
Always read the question carefully and make sure that you understand it. Read it a few times if possible.
Find out how much each question is worth or how many points you need. If it asks to give one answer, only write one.
If there’s a difficult question, don’t worry. Go on to the next question and come back to it if you have time later.
Try not to leave questions unanswered when you finish the test. Sometimes a guess may get you points.
When you finish, go back and check your answers. You will need to check your writing for spelling mistakes.
