Children know that summer is probably the most fun of all seasons. However, experts say it is also the most dangerous, especially for children aged 14 and under. In its first study of children’s safety in the US, the National Safe Kids Campaign (NSKC) found that nearly half of the injury-related(与受伤相关的) deaths among children happened in summer.
Experts are not surprised by the study’s results. They always know summer is a dangerous season for children. During the summer, children are out of school and spend more time outdoors. They are more likely to get into an accident or be injured. “While we encourage children to be active and spend more time outdoors, they need to understand the importance of safety,” said Everett Koop, an expert of the NSKC.
To help children stay safe, the NSKC started a “Make it a Safe Kids Summer” Campaign during National Safe Kids Week, from May 5th to May 12th. Here are some important summer safety tips from the NSKC:
●Always wear your seat belt.
●Make sure there is an adult around when you decide to go swimming.
●Wear a life jacket(救生衣) when on a boat or doing water sports.
●Obey all traffic rules.
●Don’t meet e-pals alone.

Leonardo da Vinci's(达芬奇) mother may have been a Chinese slave(奴隶) according to a new research by an Italian -Angelo Paratico. He has spent the last 20 years living and working in Hong Kong, researching the links(联系) b1. his homeland and China.
It is believed that Leonardo da Vinci's mother was named Caterina, who, according to some reports, was a local farmer. But Mr. Paratico's new work leads to a d2. explanation.
Speaking to the South China Morning Post, Mr. Paratico said, “I am s3. that Leonardo's mother was from the East, but to make her a Chinese, we need to use a deductive method (演绎法).”
Angerlo Paratico has s4. many documents(文献). He found that one wealthy friend of Leonardo's father’s had a slave called Caterina. After Leonardo's date of b5., she disappeared from the documents. “She was no longer working there and could not be found,” Paratico a6.. Supporting his opinion, he said, “During the period, countries like Italy and Spain were f7. of slaves from the East.”
He said that there were certain aspects(方面) of Da Vinci's life and works which suggest a Chinese link. An e8. is that he was writing with his left hand from left to right. And he was a vegetarian(素食者), which was not common. Mona Lisa(蒙娜丽莎) is probably a picture of his mother. On the back of Mona Lisa, there is a Chinese landscape and e9. her face looks Chinese.
Mr. Paratico said the only way to s10. the mystery is to extract(提取) some DNA. But he said he preferred to let the mystery remain mysterious.
