Artificial intelligence(AI)(人工智能)is the ability of a computer program or a machine. The computer or the machine with AI can think and learn. It is also a field of study that tries to make computers "smart". John McCarthy, a scientist, came up with(提出)the name "artificial intelligence" over 60 years ago. Many things such as learning and problem solving can be done by computers, though not in the same way as people do.
An unusual goal of AI research is to create computer programs. They can learn, solve problems, and think logically(逻辑地). At present, we use the term AI for successfully understanding human speech, recognizing(识别)human faces, operating self-driving cars and competing in some game systems like playing Chess. However, some people also consider AI a danger to humans if it develops too quickly. Professor Stephen Hawking(霍金), a famous British scientist was not for this kind of technology.
Math is the basic language of AI. If students are good at math, they will be more likely to become successful AI designers(设计者)in the future. We need not only bright students, but also average(普通的)students. As for(对于)average students, if they get enough math skills, they can also become successful AI designers. Besides, a good knowledge of computer science is also necessary for AI designing.
Scientists hope to create creative and emotional(有感情的)AI. The AI can possibly understand human feelings or create art. Many ways and tools have been tried to discover this wide and exciting field.

Many people dream of going on a great travel adventure. Most of us keep dreaming; others make it happen.
Gregg Beakney's dream was to travel around the Americas from top to bottom. He got the idea after he finished a 1, 600-kilometer bike ride. Gregg's friend, Brooks Allen, was also a cyclist. The two friends talked and set their goal: they would travel from Alaska to Argentina by bike. To pay for the journey, Gregg and Brooks worked and saved money for years. Once they were on the road, they often camped outdoors or stayed in hotels. In many places, along their route(路线), local people opened their homes to the two friends and gave them food.
During their trip, Gregg and Brooks cycled through deserts, rainforests(热带雨林)and mountains. They visited modern cities and explored ancient ruins(遗迹), such as Tikal in Guatemala(危地马拉). In many places, they met other cyclists from all over the world. In May 2007, they traveled twelve countries in two years, and over 30, 500 km(19, 000 miles). Later, Gregg finally reached Ushuaia, Argentina, at the top of South America. Gregg and Brooks kept a record of their adventures in an online blog. The trip taught both men a lot about travelling.
Here is some of Gregg's advice:
Travel light.
The less baggage you have, the less you'll worry about.
Be flexible(灵活的).
Don't plan everything. Then you'll be more relaxed and happier, even when there are challenges along the way.
Be polite.
A traveller told Gregg, “Always remember that nobody wants to fight or cheat a nice guy”.

D.Before he finished a 1, 600-kilometre bike ride.
2.What is the two friends' goal?
A.Make a lot of money to enjoy life.
B.Buy a nice expensive bike.
C.Travel from Alaska to Argentina by bike.
D.Spend the rest of their life in Alaska.

A.Local people. B.Other runners. C.Other drivers. D.Other cyclists.
5.What did the trip give them?
A.Something about travelling.
B.Something about riding.
C.Something about dreaming.
D.Something about adventuring.
Every day cars kill or hurt many people in the roads. Sometimes the drivers drive too fast or do not drive carefully enough. Some of them _________ the traffic rules and cause accidents.
According to some researches, it is usually the pedestrians(行人)who cause the accidents. A lot of road users are very _________. They walk or run across the roads _________the cars. They walk in the roads but not on the walkways. They get into or out of cars in the middle of the road. Some do not take the trouble to _________ the green lights and simply cross the roads against the red lights.
Many people think accidents often happen in_________ roads in large cities, but this is not always true._________, Tokyo is one of the world's largest cities and probably one of the busiest cities, however, there are_________accidents to pedestrians. The reason is that the police there are very _________and the pedestrians are very careful. Pedestrians never cross against a red light and they _________ follow traffic rules.
Do you know alcohol(酒精)is another main cause of traffic accidents? It delays(拖延)people's response. Those who have drunk alcohol are____________in making decisions. They need a few more seconds to react(反应). Alcohol drinking is especially dangerous for motor car drivers. It is not only drivers who may have accidents after drinking. Drunken pedestrians may put their lives in danger as well.
