Qian Zhongshu was one of the most well-known Chinese writers to the Western world. Born on November 21, 1910 in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, he grew up with his uncle, who didn't have a son.

Qian died of illness on December 19, 1998. He left many works to the world. His most famous novel, Fortress Besieged (《围城》), came out in 1947.
