I am a girl called Yuan Ningfei from Beijing. Now I live in London and I’m a student at City of London School for Girls. In my school, music is not just for people who play an instrument. It is for everyone.
We have music lessons once every week. Not everyone plays a musical instrument, but everyone is expected to learn a little bit about music. After all, it is never too late to pick up an instrument. During our lessons, we learn about musicians like Beethoven and Schumann. We not only listen to the music they composed (作曲), but also learn about their personal history.
We have concerts each grade. And it’s not just musicians who take part in our concerts. Everyone can take part! The students play the main role. Teachers give non-musicians some simple percussion (打击乐器) instruments because they’re easier to play. When I was in Grade 7, my classmates and I performed（表演） for our parents. I have a few friends who don’t play music. But they played these percussion instruments for that concert. I asked them what it felt like. One of my friends said, “It made me feel confident even if I didn’t think I could be there!”
Except the concerts, we have many other musical activities as well. Last month, I took part in the Young Musician of the Year Competition, which was organized (组织)by my school this year. I played the piano and won an award (奖项). I felt like I was a star performer onstage. I was so proud!
We all love music, and we believe music is an important part of life and that everyone should have the right to enjoy it.
