少购买新东西

Could you live for one month without buying anything new? Buy Nothing New Month started in Australia in 2010. It challenges people once a year to buy nothing new—except food, products used for hygiene, and medicine—for 30 days.

The aim is to encourage people to be less wasteful. It also makes us think about the influence our shopping habits have on the environment. But the challenge is not simply about going out without buying anything. People can find other creative ways to get the things they want. Here are a few examples of how to buy nothing new.

Shopping secondhand

Many people shop for secondhand products at places like thrift stores. You can usually find lots of things at good prices, and your money often goes to a good cause. And while you're there, why not give away something you no longer use so that someone else can buy it?

Swapping

With the Internet, swapping is easier than ever before. There are many websites, such as swap.com, where you can post a photo of something you don't need. Then, other users can offer something as a swap.

Upcycling

Upcycling involves turning something you no longer need into something much more useful. For example, you can turn an empty drink bottle into a beautiful vase, or an old door into an interesting table.

So why not try the challenge for yourself? You can be a friend to the environment and also to your wallet.

To forgive is a great quality, but no one has ever said it is easy. When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be extremely difficult to let go of your hate. However, forgiveness is possible. 1. A recent research says that people who forgive others show less anger and are less likely to be ill. How should you start to forgive? Try the following steps.

First, calm yourself down when you are in a bad mood.2. You can take a couple of deep breaths and think of something that brings you pleasure. Remembering a beautiful scene in the nature or someone you love will always help a lot.

Then, never wait for the person who upsets you to say sorry. They may not have wanted to hurt you or they just don't see things the same way as you do.3. In that case, it may be easier for you to be less nervous.

4. Rethinking about your hurt gives power to the person who has caused you to be painful. Instead of focusing on your wounded feelings, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you. 5.  If you understand the person, you may realize that he or she wasn't acting on purpose.

Finally, don't forget to forgive yourself. For some people, forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge. But it can rob you of your selfconfidence if you don't do it.

A.Try to see things on other persons' side.

B.The next thing is to take the control away from your offender.

C.And it can be surprisingly good for your physical and mental health.

It is believed that Huck Finn is based on a childhood friend of Mark Twain's. In fact, Twain was not alone in basing a fictional character on a real-life person.

Severus Snape/John Nettleship

Severus Snape is a skillful teacher teaching magic in Harry Potter. The writer, J. K. Rowling, once said that the character was based on a teacher of hers.

The teacher turned out to be John Nettleship, who taught Rowling chemistry. At first, Nettleship felt surprised. "I know I am a strict teacher," he said. "But I don't think I am as bad as Snape!" On second thoughts, however, he said that he was so ill-tempered that most of his students avoided making him mad. Also, he used to wear long hair and have an untidy lab. That sounds familiar to Harry Potter fans.

Alice/Alice Liddell

Famously, Lewis Carroll's Alice in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is based on Alice Liddell.

Carroll was close to the Liddell family. One day, ten-year-old Alice asked Carroll to tell her a new story. Carroll began to create his famous tale of Alice and what happened after she fell through the rabbit hole. The little girl liked the story so much that she asked him to write it down. And the rest is history.
