Earlier this month, the city of Shenzhen...

Earlier this month, the city of Shenzhen announced that it will ban (禁止) the sale and consumption (食用) of dog and cat meat, according to The paper. There have been some hints (提示) that this ban could be put into place across the country.

On April 8, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (农村农业部) introduced a draft document (文件草案) .It says dogs will no longer be treated as livestock (家畜) .Public opinions on the draft will be collected until May 8.

"Dogs have been 'specialized' to become companion (伴侣) animals, and internationally are not considered to be livestock, "the notice said. In fact, the consumption of dogs, cats and other pets is widely banned in western countries.

This change has been cheered by animal rights groups around the world. Although there is a widespread stereotype (刻板印象) of Chinese people enjoying dog meat, most Chinese do not eat it and say they never would, the BBC reported.

However, some business owners in China are against the draft. Many of them are from the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region (自治区) , where thousands of people make a living from Selling dog meat.

One business owner told the Global Times that the draft should consider local living conditions. Once the dog meat industry is banned, many people will lose their jobs.

A.pets are not regarded as livestock

B.eating dog meat is not good for us

C.most Chinese people enjoy dog and cat meat

D.people wrongly think that many Chinese people eat dog meat

根据第一段句子“There have been some hints that this ban could be put into across the country.”(已经有一些提示,这条禁令可能会落实到全国),虽说put into place 有安置的意思,但是表达上禁令被落实更为合适。 根据第三段“dogs have been “specialized”to become companion animals, and internationally are not considered to be a livestock ”(狗狗们已经“专门”变成了动物伙伴,国际上也不认为狗狗是牲畜。) 根据第四段英国广播公司说:“although there is a widespread stereotype of the Chinese people enjoying meat ,most Chinese do not eat it and say they never would ,the BBC reported.”(尽管有刻板印象中国人喜欢吃猫和狗肉,但是大部分中国人并不吃并且说以后也不会吃)由此可知人们错误地认为许多中国人吃狗肉,故答案为D。 4. 根据文中“However, some business owners in China are against the draft.” 和“Once the dog meat industry is banned, many people will lose their jobs.”

Our house was across the street from a big hospital, so we rented our empty upstairs rooms to outpatients (门诊病人) .One evening, there was a knock at the door. I opened it to see a truly sick-looking man.

His face looked terrible—it was swollen (肿胀的) and red. Yet his voice was pleasant He told me that he came for treatment and that he'd been hunting for a spare room since noon, but no one would give him one because of his face.

The old man had a huge heart inside his tiny body. He told me that he fished for a living to support his daughter, her five children, and her crippled (残废的) husband.

He didn't complain while telling me his story. He was grateful that he didn't feel any pain from his disease, which was seemingly a form of skin cancer (皮肤癌).

My neighbor warned me that I could lose potential (潜在的) renters by putting up the old man after he left the first morning.
