Kids will often ignore your requests for them to shut off the TV, start their chores(杂事),or do their homework as a way to avoid following your directions. Before you know it, you’ve started to sound like a broken record as you repeatedly ask them to do their assignments, clean their room, or take out the trash. Rather than saying “Do your chores now.” you’ll be more effective if you set a target time for when the chores have to be completed. So instead of arguing about starting chores, just say,“If chores aren’t done by 4 pm, here are the consequences.”Then it’s up to your child to complete the chores. Put the ball back in their court. Don’t argue or fight with them, just say,“That’s the way it’s going to be.”It shouldn’t be punitive(惩罚性的)as much as it should be persuasive.“If your chores aren’t done by 4 pm, then no video game time until chores are done. And if finishing those chores runs into homework time, that’s going to be your loss.”On the other hand, when dealing with homework, keep it very simple. Have a time when homework starts, and at that time, all electronics go off and do not go back on until you see that their homework is done. If your kids say they have no homework, then they should use that time to study or read. Either way, there should be a time set aside when the electronics are off.
When a kid wears his iPod or headphones when you’re trying to talk to him, make no bones about it;he is not ignoring you, he is disrespecting you. At that point, everything else should stop until he takes the earplugs out of his ears. Don’t try to communicate with him when he’s wearing headphones—even if he tells you he can hear you. Wearing them while you’re talking to him is a sign of disrespect. Parents should be very tough about this kind of thing. Remember, mutual respect becomes more important as children mature.

Have you ever heard about “cyberbullying”? This is a new kind of bullying. Teenage cyberbullies post lies and hateful things about other young people on the Internet in order to embarrass them and make them feel bad.
It is getting to be a serious problem, and it is spreading very fast. The victims don't want to go out or go to only school and avoid talking to everyone because they worry that people have already seen the lies on the Internet.
Teenagers bully other teenagers online, by sending insults or threats(侮辱或威胁)directly to them in emails or instant messages. Also, they spread hateful comments about a person through e-mail, instant messaging, or by posting on blogs or Web sites teenager often read.
A teenage student from Canada was physically bullied for years. Finally, people began to bully him online too, sending him hateful e-mails telling him no one liked him. He didn't know how to get away from the bullies, so he left school and isolated(隔离)himself from everyone.
Another example is when a group of middle school students bullied a teenage girl and started sending her unpleasant messages about her physical appearance. They called her names online and said many things to hurt her. She was very badly emotionally wounded.
Some parents, teachers, and other adults are trying to stop it by talking to victims they know about. If victims can talk about these problems with someone, they can find ways to deal with cyberbullying.
Parents of students need to check and see what their children are doing online. If they see their children bullying someone online, they need to help their children understand that they are seriously hurting their victims and see that it is wrong.
Recently I read that thousands of students and teachers in Michigan attended a conference about stopping bullying. They all worked together and discussed ways to stop bullying in their schools.

Too shy, too broke, too busy, too lazy to hit the gym these days? With FitTV, a cable station that offers 20 hours of fitness and health programing every day, another excuse for not exercising doesn’t work. But you'll still have to get up off that couch.
"FitTV is currently the only network for fitness and keeping exercise and fitness programing fresh and accessible to everyone," Carole Tomko, president and general manager of FitTV, said in an interview.
Part of Discovery Communications Inc., the station offers the workout choices, ranging from Pilates and aerobics(有氧运动)to body sculpting, yoga, belly dancing and hip hop.
"I wanted FitTV to be a clear and inviting alternative to 'hitting the gym,'" Tomko said from her headquarters in Silver Springs, Maryland.
There are exotic locations. You may be in your living room, but decathlon champion Gilad Janklowicz, an aerobics instructor, is helping you develop you from the golden sands of Hawaii's Waikiki Beach.
In the "Namaste" yoga classes, bendy young women in sports bras and shorts execute their poses(摆姿势)as the scene behind them shifts from park to beach to sun-flooded studio.
FitTV also delivers lifestyle programing on nutrition and weight loss, and a video-on-demand service allows viewers to call up favorite shows at will.
Dr. Kenneth McCulloch, an associate professor of orthopedic surgery of New York University School of Medicine, said that in general, the concept is a great idea.
"It seems that they recognize that diet and exercise go hand in hand," McCulloch said. "The other major benefit is accessibility."
FitTV targets adults ages 25-54 and is available in 47 million homes nationwide, according to Tomko, who says the subscriber base has increased steadily since 2003.

"Mom, I have to go get help," Maddie cried.
McRae realized it was their only hope. If she tried to go herself, she knew, Maddie wouldn't be able to hold on to the two toddlers(学步婴儿), and all three children might drown. But Maddie was still recovering from foot surgery and had been out of a cast for only a week. How was she going to manage? They were stranded in the middle of the swelling torrent (激流) in complete darkness, more than 25 feet from the creek bank.
McRae looked at her small, determined daughter. "I'm thinking, this is the last chance I may get to talk to her. What do I need to tell her?" she recalls. "I love you!" she shouted over the roaring water. "I'm proud of you. Be careful!"
"I know I can do it," Maddie replied. The 95-pound sixth grader grabbed a thin, weak branch hanging over the SUV and began to climb across the creek. Reaching the bank, she jumped into "a whole bunch of prickly (多刺的) bushes," then took off running. "I was in my power," she recalls.
With the cold water now swelling up to her chest and her arms growing numb around the two toddlers, McRae could see her daughter's figure as she moved quickly up the hill toward the nearest neighbor's back pasture(牧场). Suddenly she heard Maddie scream.
"I ran into an electric fence," Maddie recalls. "It really hurt." Barefoot and soaking wet, she tried to climb it four or five times, thrown back each time by a shock meant to contain horses. Finally she found a cold spot near the gate and got over. McRae saw a porch light go on at the top of the hill.

Read the following reviews for movies that are showing at the moment. And then answer questions.
Happiness(Romance) ★★★★
Happiness tells the story of two people (Lisa Turbot and Danny Roy) who work for different advertising companies. They talk on the phone all the time and don't like each other. But then they correspond by email and fall in love. This movie will be very popular with teenagers and people who like romances. It also has beautiful music.
I Scream (Thriller) ★★
In I Scream, Paul (Colin Jacks) is a young man who joins a thriller club. Each of the members tries to frighten the others. Paul is told to stay in an old house for the night. Everyone who has tried to stay in the house before has died. This movie is very frightening but also quite silly. It doesn't make sense for Paul to stay in the house when things start to go wrong. Only for people who like thrillers.
Paul's Heroes (Comedy) ★★★
This is a very funny war movie set in World War Two. Six soldiers (including Sammy Turblow) have to get to Italy to take secret messages to the American army there. During the movie, they dress up as women and fight with Italian workers. You can guess the ending, but it's great fun getting there.

This is a very good drama with Jack Ross, who pays a hard-working truck driver. His wife becomes ill and he has to find a doctor who can help her. In his travels he meets Dr. Lloyd (Phil Driver) who has found the cure for the illness, but Jack Ross has only twelve hours to get the medicine back to his wife on the other side of America.
