Taking care of yourself is not being selfish. By caring enough to treat your body well, you will be in better shape to take care of those around you. No one can take care of your health except yourself.

Believe in yourself and your ability. Have a “can-do” attitude. Make a list of successful changes that you have made in the past. It is easier to achieve a goal when you are optimistic. Use humor and laugh off occasional lapses(过失).Have confidence that you can get back on track with your healthy routine.

Seek out a friend or co-worker who will make you feel comfortable. You will find out making friends is a happy thing in the world. Regular phone calls, emails or visit over coffee could help you keep a good contact with them. Perhaps your cheerleader could become your exercise buddy(密友).

Reward yourself as you make simple changes that in the end will result in achieving your overall goal. Celebration is part of successful change. Create a list of incentives(动机) that will keep you motivated.

Adopt eating and physical activity habits that can become part of your lifestyle. Have a backup plan for those days when your plans to eat well and be active are challenged. If you can’t walk due to the weather, have an exercise video to use. If you have no time to pack a healthy lunch, choose a small fast food sandwich and side salad.

Go on a trip. Work and family are two most important things in people’s lives. People try to tackle the two things at once, but most of them fail. Just as an old saying goes: People who know how to rest know how to work. Go out with your family and have a good time.

请阅读以下个人信息,然后进行匹配:

56. Tommy, a computer engineer, doesn’t believe his working capability. Though he works hard, he never gets praise from his boss.

57. Jack dislikes going home after a full day’s work. He says that it makes him feel lonely.

58. Linda, a house wife, spends most of her time cooking and looking after babies. She is worn out now.

59. Bob, a businessman, doesn’t care much about his success and has lost his struggling motivation.

60. Cathy worked continuously for two weeks without rest. Now she is worried about her family, especially her five-year-old daughter.

Many people seem to think that science fiction is typified by the Bug-eyed Monster, embodying every feature that most people find unpleasant. This is unfortunate because it degrades a worthwhile literary endeavor. Instead, the basic interest of science fiction lies in the relation between man and his technology and between man and the universe. Science fiction is a literature of change and a literature of the future, and the aspects of human life that it considers make it well worth reading and studying for no other literary form does quite the same things. What is science fiction? To begin, the following definition should be helpful: science fiction is a literary subgenre which postulates(以…为前提) a change (for human beings) from conditions as we know them and follows the implications of these changes to a conclusion.

The first point that science fiction is a literary subgenre is a very important one, but one which is often overlooked. Specifically, science fiction is either a short story or a novel. There are only a few dramas which could be called science fiction; the body of poetry that might be labeled science fiction is only slightly larger. To say that science fiction is a subgenre of prose fiction(小说) is to say that it has all the basic characteristics and serves the same basic functions in much the same way as prose fiction in general, that is, it shares a great deal with all other novels and short stories.

Everything that can be said about prose fiction, in general, applies to science fiction. Every piece of science fiction, whether short story or novel, must have a narrator, a story, a plot, characters, setting, and language. The themes of science fiction are concerned with interpreting man’s nature and experience around him. Themes in science fiction are constructed and presented in exactly the same ways that themes are dealt with in any other kind of fiction. They are the result to a particular combination of a narrator, story, plot, character, setting, and language. In short, the reasons for reading and enjoying science fiction, and the ways of studying and analyzing it, are basically the same as they would be for any other story or novel.

A cannot be called science fiction because it does not deal with the future

B cannot be called science fiction because it doesn’t deal with technology

C can be called science fiction because it deals with man’s relation with the world

D can be called science fiction because it places people in an environment different from the one we know

53. Science fiction is called a literary subgenre because____.

A it is not important enough to be a literary genre

B it cannot be made into a dramatic presentation

C it shares characteristics with other types of prose fiction

D it has its limits

A Magical Experience

One hot August afternoon, Deena Hoagland and her son Joe sat on a floating platform at Dolphins Plus, a marine(海洋)center near their home in Florida. Nearby, a large, powerful, six-hundred-pound dolphin circled to study the mother and her child. Suddenly, it splashed the Hoaglands with water. That is when something amazing happened. Three-year-old Joe Hoagland smiled. Sitting with Joe on her lap, Deena smiled, too, as her heart leapt with joy. It was the first sign of hope she had seen in Joe since his stroke(中风)six weeks earlier.

Joe Hoagland was born with a rare heart condition that had forced him to spend much of his first three years of life in hospitals. After a series of open-heart surgeries, Joe seemed to be doing better, but the last surgery on his heart resulted in a stroke, which left him unable to move one side and to see out of one eye.

Worse still, the spirit of the child, who had bravely battled his illness until then was seemingly broken. Afraid of his doctors and unwilling to participate in efforts at physical therapy(治疗), Joe grew listless, losing interest even in his favorite toys.

Having heard of a new therapeutic approach termed “dolphin-assisted therapy,” Deena phoned Dolphins Plus and asked permission to bring her son along. There Joe met Fonzie, the playful dolphin. With each passing visit, Joe seemed to make more progress. Before long, he was regaining some movement on his left side. Dolphins Plus trainers urged Joe to get into the water and swim with his new friend. Joe, however, was reluctant. Gradually, though, Joe became more comfortable with the large dolphin, and by mid-September, Joe was swimming with his friends.

Over the next two years, Joe fully recovered from the paralysis and partial blindness that his doctors thought irreversible. Now a healthy, active teenager, Joe lives a life similar to any of his friends. He visits and swims frequently with his friend Fonzie and helps his parent with Island Dolphin Care.

Switching public spending from “grey” projects such as roads and airports, to “  21  ” schemes such as parks, tree planting and vegetables gardens, would not only   22  the government billions of pounds, improve health, and cut climate emissions(排放物),   23   it would create jobs and make British cities more attractive.

The analysis comes from two groups of government advisers, Natural England and the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, and is supported by   24  from other countries. It shows that  25  cuts are made in those areas that add to pollution, waste and ill health, and money is invested   26   in projects that save energy, improve health and reduce waste, the benefits are seen quickly.

For instance, the £10.2 billion budgeted by central government for   27   building in Britain this year will increase traffic and emissions and leave the public purse to clean up the pollution and waste. Just half of that money would pay for a new park in every local authority. Equally, the £1.28 billion   28   for widening the M25 by a single lane would benefit drivers by perhaps a few seconds a journey, but it would buy and maintain more than 3 million new street trees.

Government figures show that road traffic has increased 25% in the past 15 years, at the same time as obesity and public health costs have soared. Research also shows that in the place where people have direct   29   with the environment via animals, plants or landscapes, they are more   30  to be mentally and physically healthy. Hospital patients with views of trees rather than of brick walls stay in hospitals for far less time.
