Possible version: Nowadays, a lot of people are reportedly unwilling to help others. However, Liu Fang acted differently. Last Sunday afternoon, on her way back to school, Liu Fang came across an old man lying on the ground, seriously hurt in the leg. She immediately stopped, called 120 and practiced first aid. Soon, the ambulance came. When everything was Ok, she left for school. Such is Liu Fang, a helpful, positive and determined person. Although there might be misunderstanding or even trouble when we do good, I strongly believe that she has done the right thing. As responsible citizens, it is our duty to help people in need. Also, helping others means helping ourselves in a sense, doesn’t it?

A. School or work

B. Make small talks

C. Be fun to be around

D. Be reliable

E. Get out and meet people

F. Join people of common interests

In the world, many people want to make friends just as you do. Follow these steps to meet new people and build strong, lasting friendships with at least some of them. The following paragraphs are some steps.

1..       . You don’t necessarily have to have a lot of common interests with people in order to make friends with them—in fact, some of the most rewarding friendships are between two people who don’t have much in common at all, but if you have something in common with people, it can make it a lot easier to talk to them. Whatever your age and whatever your interests, there is a club or an organization for you.

2..       . Friends can talk about just anything, but you don’t want to get too personal when you first meet someone. Just make good, small talks at first.

3..       . You don’t have to be a superstar to be fun. You do need to be positive and friendly, however, so that people feel good when they’re around you. From the very first conversation you have with someone, you should use body language. Smile frequently, laugh often, and make eye contact. In your words, be confident.

4..       .The steps above are great for making acquaintances (认识的人), but how do acquaintances become lifelong friends? One important feature of a good friend is reliability. When you say you’ll do something, do it. Be someone that people know that they can depend on.

5.       . If you want to make friends, you first need to meet people. No matter where you live, this should be very easy.

If practicing an attitude of gratitude(感激) during the storms of life is too much for you right now, that’s OK. When things are tough, most people have a hard time being thankful. They're so caught up in what's wrong in the present moment that they simply can't see some things are still right.

If that's true for you, then accept it. You're going through a particularly difficult or unhappy period of time, and don't like it one bit. Very normal, very human. But remember this: there is always something to be grateful for. It may be only a small comfort right no, but it is a start. Make a list of some of the terrible things that didn't happen. For example:

6ec8aac122bd4f6e       You're in debt... but you're not homeless.

6ec8aac122bd4f6e       You lost your job... but you didn't lose your health.

6ec8aac122bd4f6e       You broke your leg... but you didn't break your neck.

6ec8aac122bd4f6e        Your mother has Alzheimers disease... but your father doesn't.

No matter how bad things are, they could always be worse. Start finding gratitude for what might have happened, but didn't. It does help a lot. Of course, you may not be thankful for everything- but you can always be thankful for something.

1.How many "terrible things that didn't happen" are listed in this passage?

A. Two       B. Three           C. Four            D. Five

2.The writer thinks it ____ for people to feel unhappy in time of difficulty.

A. necessary   B. normal          C. great            D. helpful

3..What is the purpose of this passage?

A. To discuss ways to make a list of terrible things

B. To explain what is gratitude towards the storms of life.

C. To persuade people to be thankful for what didn't happen.

D. To show people different ways to consider their tough situations.

4.. How is the passage organized?

A. Explanation―Comparison―Topic

B. Argument―Opinion―Discussion

C. Comparison―Argument―Explanation

D. Introduction―Discussion―Conclusion
