1. Mean old ladies
There is always a reason why an old lady gives you a serious look – you are being too loud, dressed improperly or not crossing the street in the right place. Sometimes it can be lovely, but if you are already having a bad day, a mean old lady can drive you mad.
What to do about it:
I’ve come to realize that when people start conflicts, it is actually an expression of their inner state expressed in an outside way. You, your personality, your looks or your actions have nothing to do with it. It is not personal, so why take it personally?
2. That person, who cuts in front of everybody in line
This is something that gets me angry. Even if I am not in a hurry, I still feel bad for the other people in line who are being treated unjustly. Are you more patient than I am or do you feel annoying too?
What to do about it:
If we have negative thoughts then we are wasting our energy on negativity. Situations like this could be a great opportunity to learn to control our first negative responses and practice understanding. After all, the person may just have a quick question or maybe there is an emergency.
Friends that tell you “I told you so”
It is one thing to admit that you made a mistake and another to hear it from a friend. Friends should be there to support you and cheer you up when you are feeling down, not make themselves feel better at your expense, right?
What to do about it:
It helps to remember that when people say “I told you so”, they may mean, “Please listen to my advice to avoid future mistakes.” If this is not the help you need – voice it out, without getting defensive.

I once had a friend that was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and the news that he might only live up to six months was a great shock to him, his family, and his friends. However, in spite of the serious illness, he was initially determined to look into all available treatments that might cure or extend his life. I think that when you find yourself in such situations, you tend to look up every possible way for hope of saving your life.
As months went on and his health grew worse, I noticed an unexpected change in attitude that came over him. He had also been a happy person with a cheerful personality, but rather than give in to discouragement and self-pity, he took comfort in God and humanity. His talks focused on others rather than himself, and he spoke of the afterlife as something he was prepared for, believing that his concerned ancestors, including his mother and father, were there waiting for him.
During the last few months, weeks, and days of his life, he was kindly cared for by family, friends, his loving wife, who looked after both his physical and emotional needs, and workers from a local hospice (安养院) came to the home to regulate his medication and provide any other needed support. He didn't complain about his fate, and he willingly allowed others to serve him.
Indeed, one might think why God allows death and suffering in our world, but for me, such experiences taught me to value family more and kindness for others. You often can't learn these important attributes in the lap of luxury, and perhaps, such an experience is the greatest and final gift the illness can give those left behind.

Most people believe they don’t have much imagination. They are ____. Everyone has imagination, but most of us, once we become adults, forget how to ____ it. Creativity isn’t always ____ with great works of art or ideas. People at work and in their free time ____ think of creative ways to solve problems. Maybe you have a goal to achieve, a tricky question to answer or you just want to expand your mind! Here are three techniques to help you.
Making connections This technique involves taking ____ ideas and trying to find links between them. First, think about the problem you have to solve or the job you need to do. Then find an image, word, idea or object, for example, a candle. Write down all the ideas/words ____ with candles: light, fire, matches, wax, night, silence, etc. Think of as many as you can. The next stage is to relate the ____ to the job you have to do. So imagine you want to buy a friend an original ____; you could buy him tickets to a match or take him out for the night.
No limits! Imagine that normal limitations don’t ____. You have as much time/space/money, etc. as you want. Think about your goal and the new ____. If your goal is to learn to ski, ____, you can now practice skiing every day of your life (because you have the time and the money). Now ____ this to reality. Maybe you can practice skiing every day in December, or every Monday in January.
Be someone else! Look at the situation from a ____ point of view. Good businessmen use this technique in trade, and so do writers. Fiction writers often imagine they are the ___ in their books. They ask questions: What does this character want? Why can’t she get it? What changes must she make to get what she wants? If your goal involves other people, put yourself in their ____. By now you know that getting your money’s worth is not just a matter of luck. It is more often the of buying skill. Nevertheless, even the smartest consumers are sometimes fooled into thinking they are getting their money’s worth when they are not. At one time or another, almost everyone experiences deception (欺骗)in the market place. The deception may not be . But, whether or not, any kind of deception hurts consumers’ feelings as well as their pocket books. Some kinds of deception even endanger their health and safety as well. , consumers need protection against the marketing of unsafe goods and false or misleading advertising. Fortunately, there are both public and agencies working to meet the need. Government’s job in free enterprise system is to protect the public _ . The public is composed entirely of consumers. When it comes to protecting consumers, therefore, government has the most influence. Because most consumer products are sold , the major responsibility for consumer protection is by federal government. That responsibility, however, is shared by many agencies. For example, the US Postal Service works to uncover and stop dishonest schemes operated by mail. The National Highway Safety Bureau is with all aspects of automobile safety. Certain federal agencies, however, have consumer protection as one of their chief . Most federal agencies are known by their initials. FDA stands for the Food and Drug Administration, which probably does more to protect consumers than any other agency. Its major concern is the safety, purity, and labeling of foods, drugs, and cosmetics. These are the products for which consumers spends a(n) 38% of their incomes.

What do you do if you don't get into your first choice of university? That's the question faces thousands of students in Britain every year.
Many students turn to Clearing, an education agency that helps (find) university places for students at the last moment. students don't have enough marks to get into their first choice of universities, Clearing tells them about places available at other universities, though they might have to study another subject.
But this year has seen a record number of students want to study in universities. This means that there's been a fiecer competition for university places than usual. Education officials say six students competed for one place. It’s said almost 190,000 students still don't have a place in a university. That's a rise of over 46,000 students from last year.
(face) with these numbers, some students are going to be disappointed, others might be thinking of an interesting choice: studying abroad. The University of Nottingham, for example, is offering places in Ningbo, near Shanghai.
the problems with university entrance, the UK's Higher Education Minister, David Willetts, encourages students to study at home or to learn one kind of skills, such as cooking, hairdressing and so on . some people say that rising university costs, less hope to find jobs in the future, and a drop in graduate recruitment(大学招生)mean it's (bad) time to be a university student in the UK.
