Nearly five years before ,and with the help by our father, my sister and I planted some cherry tomatoes(圣女果)in our back garden, since then---for all these year---we had been allowing tomatoes to self seed where they please . As result, the plants are growing somewhere. The fruits are small in size, but juicy and taste. There are so much that we often share them with our neighbors .Although we allow tomato plants to grow in the same place year after year, but we have never had any disease or insect attack problem. We are growing wonderfully tomatoes at on cost!

1.before→ago 2.by→of 3.had→have 4.year→years 5.as result→as a result 6.somewhere→everywhere 7.taste→tasty 8.much→many 9.but→yet/去掉but 10.wonderfully→wonderful 【解析】 试题分析:本文叙述了五年前,在父亲的帮助下,作者和姐姐在后花园里种植了一些圣女果,这些年以来,它的种子我们没有管过,在院子里随处疯长,结果院子里到处都是圣女果,于是我们就把它们分给邻居吃。 2.by→of 考查介词。 在……的帮助下用固定搭配with the help of,所以用of。 所以把 had 变成have,故用have。 4.year→years考查名词。 all these years 的意思是这么多年,故用years 5.as result→as a result考查短语。as a result 是固定搭配。所以在As和 result之间加a,用 as a result。 8.much→many 考查形容词。 9.but→yet/去掉but 考查连词。

Jimmy is an automotive mechanic, but he lost his job a few months ago. He has good heart, but always feared applying for a new job.

While waiting for a bus to the office where he was supposed to be interviewed, he saw an elderly man wildly kicking the tyre(轮胎) of his car. Obviously there was something wrong with the car. Jimmy immediately went up to lend him a hand. When Jimmy finished working on the car, the old man asked him how much he should pay for the service. Jimmy said there was no need to pay him; he just helped someone in need, and he had to rush for an interview. Then the old man said, “Well, I could take you to the office for your interview. It’s the least I could do. Please. I insist.” Jimmy agreed.

Upon arrival, Jimmy found a long line of applications waiting to be interviewed. Jimmy still had some grease on him after the car repair, but he did not have much time to wash it off or have a change of shirt. One by one, the applicants left the interviewer’s office with disappointed look on their faces. Finally his name was called. The interviewer was sitting on a large chair facing the office window. Rocking the chair back and forth, he asked, “Do you really need to be interviewed?” Jimmy’s heart sank. “With the way I look now, how could I possibly pass this interview?” he thought to himself.

Then the interviewer turned the chair and to Jimmy’s surprise, it was the old man he helped earlier in the morning. It turned out he was the General Manager of the company.

“Sorry I had to keep you waiting, but I was pretty sure I made the right decision to have you as part of our workforce before you even stepped into the office.
