Dear Jim, I’ve received your letter inquiring square dancing. In China, some retired people gather on the square or in the park to dance together in the early morning or evening. People call it square dancing. It is a good way of keeping fit, especially for the elderly. However, the noise caused by the loud music really affects the normal life and study of residents living nearby. Besides, square dancing takes up too many public places, like parks and squares, annoying other users. Considering the current situation, I think that the dancers should keep the music down to an acceptable level, and arrange their dancing time properly. What’s more, in order to reduce the inconvenience to others, organizers should carefully choose suitable places to dance in and more importantly, dancers and residents should learn to tolerate, understand and respect each other.
