When I was at middle school, I have a nice classmate, that was the first foreigner I had ever met. She was friendly and very pretty. She was good in three languages, although he was born in China. It was interested that her father was a Frenchman while her mother came from England. All of them were teaching at a university at that time. She was crazy collecting stamps, listening to pop music, as well as playing the football. Her dream was to be an engineer, so she usually studied harder to achieve it. She often told funny stories in English to make us laughing. We all liked her.

1.have 改为had; 2.that改为who 3.in 改为at 4.he 改为she 5.interested 改为interesting 6.All 改为 Both; 7.collecting 前加about 8.harder 改为 hard; 9.laughing 改为laugh 10.are改为is 【解析】 试题分析:本文属于记叙文,主要介绍了作者的一位老同学以及这位老同学的具体信息及家庭情况。 1.文中第一行have 改为had。根据前半句中的was 判断时态为一般过去式。所以have要变为过去式had 2.that改为who。 本题是一个定语从句,先行词是a nice classmate,关系代词who指代先行词在句中作主语,不能省略。 3.文中第二行in 改为at。Be good at 擅长…,固定搭配,所以要将in改为at 4.

Any car accident is frightening, but an accident in which your vehicle is thrown into the water, with you trapped inside, is absolutely(绝对地) terrifying.

1.    . However, most deaths result from fear, without a plan or understanding what is happening to the car in the water. By adopting a brace(支撑) position, acting decisively and getting out fast, you can save yourself from a sinking vehicle.

Brace yourself for impact (撞击力). As soon as you're aware that you're going off th e road and into a body of water, adopt a brace position. The impact could set off the airbag system in your vehicle, so you should place both hands on the steering wheel(方向盘) in the "ten and two" position.

Undo your seatbelt.   2.    . Release the children, starting with the oldest first. Forget the cell phone call. Your car isn't going to wait for you to make the call.

3.     . Leave the door alone at this stage and concentrate on the  window. A car's electrical system should work for up to three minutes in water, so try the method of opening it electronically first. Many people don't think about the window as an escape choice either because of fear or misinformation about doors and sinking.

Break the window. If you aren't able to open the window, or it only opens halfway, you'll need to break it with an object or your foot. It may feel counter-intuitive (有悖常理的) to let water into the car.   4.    .

Escape when the car has equalized. If it has reached the stage where the car has been filled with water and it has become balanced, you must move quickly and effectively to ensure your survival.     5.   . While there is still air in the car, take slow, deep breaths and focus on what you're doing.

A. Open the window as soon as you hit the water.

B. This is the first thing to do, yet it often gets forgotten.

C. Surviving a sinking car is not as difficult as you think.

D. In short, if you know what to do in the water, you will be safe.

E. It takes 60 to 120 seconds for a car to be filled with water usually.

F. Such accidents are particularly dangerous to the risk of drowning(淹死).

G. But the sooner the window is open, the sooner you can escape directly through it.

America is a mobile society. Friendships between Americans can be close and real, yet disappear soon if situations change. Neither side feels hurt by this. Both may exchange Christmas greetings for a year or two, perhaps a few letters for a while — then no more. If the same two people meet again by chance, even years later, they pick up the friendship. This can be quite difficult for us Chinese to understand, because friendships between us flow more slowly but then may become lifelong feelings, extending(延伸) sometimes deeply into both families.

Americans are ready to receive us foreigners at their homes, share their holidays, and their home life. They will enjoy welcoming us and be pleased if we accept their hospitality (好客) easily.

Another difficult point for us Chinese to understand Americans is that although they include us warmly in their personal everyday lives, they don’t show their politeness to us if it requires a great deal of time. This is usually the opposite of the practice in our country where we may be generous with our time.

Sometimes, we, as hosts, will appear at airports even in the middle of the night to meet a friend. We may take days off to act as guides to our foreign friends. The Americans, however, express their welcome usually at homes, but truly can not manage the time to do a great deal with a visitor outside their daily routine. They will probably expect us to get ourselves from the airport to our own hotel by bus. And they expect that we will phone them from there. Once we arrive at their homes, the welcome will be full, warm and real. We will find ourselves treated hospitably.

For the Americans, it is often considered more friendly to invite a friend to their homes than to go to restaurants, except for purely business matters. So accept their hospitality at home!

1.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?

A. Friendships between Americans usually last for all their lives.

B. Americans always show their warmth even if they are very busy.

C. Americans will continue their friendships again even after a long break.

D. Friendships between Americans usually extend deeply into their families.

2.From the last two paragraphs we can learn that when we arrive in America to visit an American friend, we will probably be ______.

A. offered a ride to his home

B. treated hospitably at his home

C. treated to dinner in a restaurant

D. warmly welcomed at the airport

3.A suitable title for this passage would probably be “______”.

A. Americans’ and Chinese’s views of friendships.

B. Friendships between Americans.

C. Friendships between Chinese.

D. Americans’ hospitality .

There was once an old wise man living on the top of a mountain. Whenever the villagers had a problem, they would climb up the mountain and ask the old man for advice.

One day a young man arrived. “Wise man,” he asked, “What makes a man truly great?”

The old man said, “Do you sincerely want to know?”

A punctual person is in the habit of doing a thing at the proper time and is never late in keeping an appointment.

The unpunctual man, on one hand, never does what he has to do at the right time. He is always in a hurry and in the end loses both time and his good name. A lost thing may be found again, but lost time can never be regained. Time is more valuable than material things. In fact, time is life itself. The unpunctual man is for ever wasting and mismanaging his most valuable asset (财产) as well as others. The unpunctual person is always complaining that he finds no time to answer letters, or return calls or keep appointments promptly. But the man who really has a great deal to do is very careful of his time. He knows that he can not get through his huge amount of work unless he faithfully keeps every piece of work when it has to be attended to.

Failure to be punctual in keeping one’s appointments is the sign of disrespect towards others. If a person is invited to dinner and arrives later than the appointed time, he keeps all the other guests waiting for him. Usually this will be regarded as a great disrespect to the host and all other guests present.

Unpunctuality, moreover, is very harmful when it comes to one’s duty, whether public or private. Imagine how it would be if those who are put in charge of important tasks failed to be at their proper place at the appointed time. A man who is known to be habitually unpunctual is never trusted by his friends or fellow men.

1.What does the author think is the main difference between a punctual person and an unpunctual person?

A. A punctual person does everything ahead of time.

B. An unpunctual person never does anything at the right time.

C. A punctual person has a lot of appointments.

D. An unpunctual person has little time to do anything.

2.According to the passage, the main reason that a person is always unpunctual is that _______.

A. he has more work to do than other people

B. he is always in a hurry when he works

C. he doesn’t care much about time

D. he always mismanages and wastes his time

3.If someone isn’t punctual in keeping his appointments, he might ________.

A. lose his life

B. mismanage his asset

C. be thought to disrespect others

D. do harm to others

4.According to the third paragraph, when you are invited to dinner, you should arrive there ________.

A. after other guests

B. before other guests

C. at the appointed time

D. after the host getting things ready

5.Which of the following statements best describes the harm of unpunctuality?

A. If you are an unpunctual person, you cannot be in charge of any important task.

B. If your friends know that you are unpunctual, they may not see you again.

C. Unpunctuality may bring about heavy losses for both public and private affairs.

D. Unpunctuality may make you miss a lot of appointments and lose friends.
