We appreciate getting 8. (you) apologies and goodwill, 9. we hope that you can find out a good way of 10.  (settle) the matter .

1.delighted 2.that 3.times 4.to understand 5.has 6.an 7.much 8.your 9.but 10.settling 【解析】 试题分析:本文属于记叙文,作者向邻居投诉对方的狗叫得太早,叫得时间太长对自己的生活带来很大的影响,希望对方能够想办法解决这个问题。 本句中的it是形式主语,真正主语是不定式to understand why she barks every minute she’s outside. 1.One day, he came up with an idea he would pluck (拔)up all of his crop a few inches. He did so the next day 分析:因he came…和he would pluck…是两个主谓关系,即两个句子,他们之间没有句号或分号,空格处必定是填连词;又因为“他想把禾苗拔几寸”就是“主意(idea)”的具体内容,可见后句是同位语从句;由于该从句不缺任何句子成分,并且意义已非常完整了,故填that 2.He was very tired after doing this for a whole day, he felt very happy since the crop did “grow” higher. 分析:因和he was…和he felt…是两个主谓关系,即两个句子,他们之间是逗号,而不是句号或分号,空格处必定是填连词;又因“很累”与“高兴”之间是转折关系,故填并例连词but 3.I realized that the villagers who had gathered around me were arguing as to should have the honour of receiving me as a guest in their house. 4.......the head of the village was tying up his horse to my car to pull it to a small town some 20 kilometers away there was a garage.

The plan: turn Mars into a blue world with streams and green fields, and then fill it with creatures (生物) from the earth.

This suggests the future for the "red planet" will be the main topic for discussion at an international conference hosted by NASA (美国宇航局) this week. Leading researchers as well as science fiction writers will attend the event.

Turning Mars into a little earth has long been a topic in science fiction,” said Dr Michael Meyer, NASA's senior scientist for astrobiology (太空生物学).“Now, with scientists exploring the reality, we can ask what are the real possibilities of changing Mars.”

Most scientists agree that Mars could be turned into a little earth, although much time and money would be needed to achieve this goal.

But many experts are shocked by the idea. "We are destroying our own world at an unbelievable speed and now we are talking about ruining another planet," said Paul Murdin from the Institute of Astronomy, Cambridge, UK.

Over the past months, scientists have become increasingly confident .They will find Martian life forms. Europe and America's robot explorers have found proof that water, mixed with soil, exists in large amounts on the planet.

It was very cold and I had been watching a homeless man make himself comfortable in a “shelter” on the river bank. I never saw him with warm clothing or food. I knew what I wanted to do.

When I told my parents my plan they were alarmed. They said I could be putting myself in danger, taking a box to a homeless person at night! But I knew, in my deep heart, that I would be safe. They watched as I added warm gloves, a heavy blanket into a box until it was full! Then, I put a Christmas card on top. It said, “Even though we hardly know each other, I want to wish you a Merry Christmas!” I put ten one-dollar bills inside it as well.

My father insisted he went there with me as it was 10 pm on Christmas Eve. I said he could drive me but he had to stay in the car. He agreed.

I I took the box and walked towards his “house”. I called, “Sir, I have a Christmas box for you!”

“Go away!” he shouted.

“Sir,” I repeated.

“Go away!” he shouted angrily.

“Why?” I asked him.

He walked over and I saw two of the most beautiful, gentle, blue eyes I have ever seen.

“Merry Christmas!” I said.

“Why are you doing this?” he asked.

“Because you matter to me,” I said. With that I gave him the box.

Tears came to his eyes and he carried the box like it was filled with gold. I didn’t want to embarrass(使…尴尬) him by watching him anymore. So Dad and I left. (272 words)
